Chapter 3: understanding the whole truth

"i don't know what to say... It's you. You're here and you have a tail!" she looks me up and down in astonishment."oh-how?" i decide to start from the beginning. i tell her about dad not telling me the secret and how i went on the boat and my tail. When i finally finish she can barely speak, all she can do is hug me tightly. i love the feeling of her arms surrounding me. i feel so loved and like I'm at home. a sense of peace washes over me like a wave slowly covering the sand. "m-mom who's Zyris?" after we were accustomed to each other i asked her. "honey," she gives me a concerned look," Dad didn't tell you that you have a twin sister?" what? i think to myself. how could he not have told me? that must've been the secret. That and that i'm part mermaid. Oh and dad it might have been important to tell me my mother is actually alive. i'm so fuming angry right now. although i'm also super excited about my sister, my tail, my mom, and well being in this amazing underwater palace. "A twin sister!" i screeched in excitement. she gently grasps my arm to calm me down. though i've only been here for a few minutes i feel as though i know so much about her. She seems very calm and is able to peacefully approach problems. "honey come with me we have s lot to discuss." she brings me out of her office and back down the hallway i was brought in by. she turns the corner and opens the doors to reveal a beautiful seating area. The walls are bright pink with coaches containing plush floral pillows. the carpet is also a rainbow floral design. on the walls are paintings of shells, coral, and other oceanic things. but beyond that beauty is a stairwell which we go up. it leads us to a balcony that overlooks almost the entire town. "come, sit, " she says with a voice so soft. " Quinn i have a lot to tell you so why not let me tell you it from the beginning. It'll only make sense that way." "ok," i quietly respond because i wasn't quite sure what to say. "so.... 20 years ago, 7 years before your birth the king became gravely ill. I was his servant. well, more like a close friend. Although at night while he was asleep i liked to explore. and one day i came across a boat called The Starshell, " that's my dad's boat," and i saw an awfully handsome man on it. Mermaid protocol is to cause something to rid the boat of nearing the town. Though i couldn't, so i somehow caught his attention. he obviously was very startled. After that we talked and fell in love. every night after that i would sneak out and meet him. After about 4 years King Joshua died and he said i could have any wish so i chose to be able to walk on land and breathe underwater(AkA a human and mermaid). When your father found out he proposed and we got married. a year later we had you and your sister. For a while i lived on land with your dad but one day some guards came and told me that a tyrant took over and that they needed me back because it's against the law for a mermaid to be in love with a human because then their kids are both and that can jeopardize the secrecy of mermaids. I refused to go but the new guards that came with the tyrant forcefully took me away. As much as i loved your father i had to go and there was no way he could come with me. So he took you and i took Zyris." her eyes begin to tear up as she recollects that terrible day,"When i got back we soon overthrew the tyrant and got rid of him and his minions. i was then elected Queen and that brings us to today." she takes a deep breathe because she has just lifted such a heavy burden. I don't know what to say because i've just learned that i have such an amazing history. " wow," "i understand that it's a lot take in."i nod my head in agreement. "how come you don't meet up anymore?" "i can't take the pain of it. If i can't be with him all the time than i can't at all," she looks down at her lap and her luscious curls drop to the ground."so... where's Zyris?" i stare at her with an anxious glare. "well, before i had to go your father and i made a promise that on your 13th birthday i'd tell Zyris what i just told you and your father would tell you. Although it's clearly evident that he didn't do his part and i wish i hadn't either," she takes a deep sigh of disappointment before continuing," when i told Zyris this morning she was furried she was so mad and so she left and we don't know where to." She looks at me with a hopeful expression like a puppy behind the bars of a pound. " i need your help to find her. Twin sisters hold a special bond and power. Since you are here she has no chance of finding you. And she won't come home until she finds you. There's a lot of dangers in the ocean and if she gets too far she can sucked into a whirlpool that's unavoidable given any direction she heading towards. You, Quinn is the only one who can rescue her before it's too late." I ponder upon the dangers that may lie ahead of me.
