Jex. The Beginning

III

Just as Justin had given himself up for dead, his captor broke loose, but not by himself. Vex was holding him and with the same knife that the masked man wanted to kill Justin, he stabbed him in the chest.

Vex took Justin and took him running from there.

—What just happened? —asked Justin shocked to see how his friend had killed a hit man without mercy.

—I just saved your life, that just happened.

—Why?

—That's what I had to tell you. —Justin looked incredulous at Vex —My family is the one who founded the mafia. —Vex said with sighs —That's why I'm taking over this case, to protect them.

—How? —asked Justin perplexed —So you've been lying to me?

—It's not what you think, I really am a cop, but my little sister had no choice but to inherit the mafia when I left, and she just wants to take down the corrupt and delinquents who stalk our streets. That's why the hit man was waiting for you on the way out.

—What do you do? What's your role in all this?

—Keep her from getting caught and help her when it's necessary. It's my duty as a big brother, and I owe it to her for bringing her into this world, just for not wanting to be a part of my parents' business.

Justin didn't know what to say, he didn't know what to do, but he knew that all the words that came out of his partner's mouth were true and something inside him was removed. It touched him to see Vex in that state so despondent and in that image of big brother so overprotective.

—So she only kills corrupt criminals and murderers? —asked Justin, making sure he heard what he had just heard.

—Yeah, just end the lives of the worst. I'm sorry I should have told you before.

—Okay, it's fine, I'll help you.

—What?! —added Vex, stopping the car at once

—I'm your partner and your best friend, they only ends the bad guys, so I have nothing to lose and if we fall, we'll fall together, so I don't see the problem. —winks at him with complicity.

—Thank you, mate.

And that's how these two detective officers, colleagues and friends, embarked together on a world where they were day cops and night mobsters.

Protecting good civilians from the clutches of crime.

Taking care of themselves and their own.

And who knows what the future holds for this couple of detectives. Only they will know. 

And well, the rest is history.
