The next day, Mamiya, my tsundere ex-girlfriend, approaches me and tells me to meet her after school. It is clear to me that she has not learnt her lesson from when Shizuka, my girlfriend who is also a second-year student (my senpai), stands up for me. After school, she states that she is going to get her revenge on me for having Shizuka humiliate her in front of our other first year classmates.
"Yuma, I will make you my boyfriend again." Mamiya says
"I already told you, that's not gonna happen!" I roar
Mamiya clenches her fist and swings it towards me. It is at this moment when my girlfriend and senpai Shizuka or "Shizuka-Senpai" as everyone else calls her comes out of nowhere and catches her fist.
"Leave my boyfriend alone!" Shizuka cries
"Kawai-Senpai, just back off, this is between me and Yuma!" Mamiya bellows
Shizuka just stays quiet and this enrages Mamiya even more. She swings her other fist and Shizuka reveals another side to herself that I did not know existed. She body slams Mamiya into the rooftop and this is when I discover that my girlfriend has an extremely badass side to her personality.
As Mamiya lies on the rooftop, stunned and gasping for breath, Shizuka stands tall, her eyes filled with determination. The once calm and composed girl I knew suddenly transforms into a fierce warrior, ready to protect what is hers.
"You think you can just waltz back into Yuma's life and cause trouble?" Shizuka's voice is laced with a mix of anger and disappointment. "You clearly haven't learned your lesson, Mamiya."
Mamiya struggles to regain her composure, her eyes burning with a mix of fury and humiliation. "You think you're so special, Shizuka? Just because you're a year older and his senior, you think you can control him?"
Shizuka's grip tightens on Mamiya's collar, her voice low and dangerous. "I don't control him, Mamiya. I love him, and I will protect him from anyone who tries to hurt him, including you."
Mamiya's face contorts with rage, and she tries to push Shizuka away. But Shizuka's strength surprises her, and she finds herself unable to break free. With a swift movement, Shizuka pins Mamiya to the ground, her knee pressing against her chest.
"You've always underestimated me, Mamiya," Shizuka says, her voice filled with a mix of triumph and sadness. "You thought I was just a quiet girl who would let you walk all over us. But you were wrong."
Mamiya struggles beneath Shizuka's hold, her face turning red with exertion. "Let me go, you bitch!"
Shizuka's eyes narrow, her grip tightening even more. "You don't get it, do you? Yuma and I have something real. We have trust, love, and respect. You can't just come back and expect him to fall for your manipulative games."
Mamiya's struggles weaken, her voice barely a whisper. "I... I just wanted him back. I miss him."
Shizuka's expression softens, and she releases her hold on Mamiya. She stands up, offering her hand to help Mamiya up. "If you truly care about him, Mamiya, then you need to let him go. He's moved on, and so should you."
Mamiya takes Shizuka's hand, tears streaming down her face. "I... I understand now. I'm sorry for causing trouble."
As they stand on the rooftop, the tension between them dissipates, replaced by a sense of understanding and forgiveness. Mamiya takes a deep breath, wiping away her tears, and nods in agreement.
From that moment on, Shizuka and Mamiya's relationship takes on a new dynamic. They may not be friends, but they have a mutual respect for each other and a shared goal of protecting Yuma. And as they watch the sunset together, a sense of peace settles over them, knowing that they are both willing to do whatever it takes to keep Yuma safe and happy.
