One Saturday morning, I suddenly hear someone knocking on the door of my apartment. When I go to open it, I see Shizuka, my childhood friend turned girlfriend and second year student (senpai) standing there. I do not know what she is doing here, as we have only been together for three weeks at this point.

"Good morning, Yuma!" Shizuka cries

My entire body freezes up and I cannot respond to her greeting. Instead of being annoyed, Shizuka starts laughing and calls me cute for getting all flustered.

"Looks like my boyfriend has turned into a turtle." Shizuka says in a cheerful tone

My mind is racing with thoughts like: "Oh my God, Shizuka's here at my apartment! I'm just an introverted high school freshman, and she's a sophomore at the school as me."

I lead her inside and she goes straight to my room. My face has a happy expression on it, but this changes when I suddenly remember something. My room is lined with manga and I am afraid that Shizuka will make fun of me. I follow her and come to the horrifying discovery that she is looking at my manga collection.

My mind races with thought like: "She totally thinks that I read hentai manga, my life is over" and "This is not good, she is totally going to make my life a living hell."

But to my surprise, Shizuka's face lights up with excitement as she pulls out a volume of my favourite series.

"Yuma, you have such great taste in manga!" She exclaims, her eyes sparkling with genuine interest.

Relief washes over me, and I can't help but smile. Shizuka's acceptance of my hobby reassures me that she truly understands and appreciates me for who I am. As we sit down together, flipping through the pages and discussing our favourite characters, I realize just how lucky I am to have her in my life.

As the day goes on, Shizuka and I spend hours engrossed in conversation, reminiscing about our childhood memories and catching up on each other's lives. It feels as if no time has passed since we last saw each other, and our connection only grows stronger with each passing moment.

Eventually, the topic shifts to our relationship. Shizuka confesses that she had been feeling a bit overwhelmed with her senior year responsibilities and wanted to surprise me, hoping that spending the day together would help alleviate some of her stress. I can't help but feel touched by her thoughtfulness and the effort she put into making this surprise visit happen.

As the evening approaches, we decide to order takeout and continue our marathon of manga reading. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed, with a sense of familiarity and ease that only comes from years of friendship. It's in these moments that I realize how lucky I am to have found someone like Shizuka, someone who not only accepts me for who I am but also brings out the best in me.

As the night draws to a close, Shizuka leans in and plants a gentle kiss on my cheek, her eyes filled with warmth and affection.

"Thank you for today, Yuma," She whispers softly. "I'm grateful to have you in my life."

I can't help but blush, feeling a surge of happiness and contentment. In that moment, I know that our relationship is something special, something worth cherishing and nurturing.

From that day forward, Shizuka and I continue to grow closer, supporting each other through the ups and downs of life. Our shared love for manga becomes a bond that strengthens our connection, and we embark on countless adventures together, both within the pages of our favourite stories and in the real world.

And as time goes on, I realize that sometimes, the most unexpected surprises can lead to the most beautiful and fulfilling relationships.
