"Did you just call this guy grandpa?" Midori heard Zoro question Luffy, her eyes still squeezed shut as she tried to convince herself she was still deep in her nap and Usopp had never actually come to wake her up. She heard the sound of another cannon being fired but she didn't make any motion to move, not even when it whizzed right into the water, rocking the ship.
"Hit the deck!" Usopp calls out hastily and Midori's eyes finally snap open. Just as they do, the iron ball smashes into the ship right in front of her, sending pieces of stained wood flying into the air. The ship shakes on impact and knocks her off her feet. She hears herself hit the ground before she feels it. As soon as she has her barings around her, she's sitting up to look around.
Luffy and Zoro had ended up on the ground next to her while Nami and Usopp were somewhere on the upper deck. A hand was extended towards and she took it, glancing up as Zoro yanked her up to her feet.
"Everybody okay?" Luffy questioned loudly over another cannonball hitting the water. Midori brushed the debris from her legs and turned to see Nami definitely not okay and Usopp who looked equally as bad, the latter shook his head.
"No. Not okay. Not even close to okay."
"I hate to say it," Midori breathed out. "But I agree with him."
Luffy doesn't say anything to calm them, in return he turns his attention back to the Marine ship in determination. "Usopp, fire back at them!"
"Or how about we sail away as fast as we can?" The overall boy countered, pointing over his shoulder with his thumb. Midori wasn't willing to admit outloud a second time that she agreed with Usopp but damn, was he making great points. Luffy disagreed though because of course he did.
"Run from the Marines?" He questioned his crew then without waiting for a response, he shook his head. "No. Never! Nami, trim the... the sail thing. Let's sink their ship."
Everyone started to move in position. Usopp ran down the short set of stairs and past Midori to the cannon, wheeling it into place while Nami stood in place clearly not fond of the formed plan.
"We don't have time. They're stealing our wind." Nami claimed, her voice raising. "If they pull alongside us we're finished."
"You're the navigator. Do something." Luffy says more focused on the cannon and Usopp than Nami's worries.
The red-head turns to Midori who was still standing next to Zoro, giving her a look of 'what the fuck, he's serious'. Then jumped into action, Nami grabbed the helm of the ship and started turning it into place. Midori sighed as Usopp and Luffy struggled to figure out the cannon, these people are terrible pirates. She didn't have to help them though, there was something else that needed to be done. Instead, she hooked her elbow with Zoro's and dragged him along to pull the sails in so that they had a chance to turn around and catch the wind again.
"Come on, we need to sheet in and hard to port." He glanced at her, his brows pinched together.
"Which way is port?" Zoro asked and Midori shot him a quizzical look, noting his terrible sense of direction. First at Kaya's mansion and now, she knew he was a bounty hunter but has he never been on a pirate ship before?
"It's the left." She replies as Nami instructs Usopp and Luffy on how to use the cannon properly. Midori drags Zoro the rest of the way down the steps, unlinking her arm from his as they approach the sail. Zoro starts untying the rope but it seems useless as cannonballs of their own start to roll down the steps they just descended. They knocked against Midori's boot as Usopp crawled till he was at the top of the stairs looking down at the lower deck with a grimace.
