The Tvdu Species

To understand Hope Mikaelson you need to understand her family (I wont be going into full detail I'm just explaining some things to avoid some confusion)

The werewolves here have a curse on them, when they have their first kill they are forced to turn into wolves every full moon. To turn they must break every bone in their body. These aren't the same as the hp werewolves when they turned, these turned into actual wolves but with highly increased speed and strength.

What they are: The Mikaelsons are all a family of vampires except for Hope and Klaus they are still vampires but are different. Esther Mikaelson had practically invented dark magic.

Esther Mikaelson couldn't have children and since she was afraid her husband would leave her she went to her sister, Dahlia, for help. Dahlia did help her but they had made a deal. Every first born of the Mikaelson family goes to Dahlia, Esther had accepted thinking that having 5 children would fill the whole of one. Soon Freya was born and when she was five years old she was taken by Dahlia. The real reason why she wanted the first borns is because first borns of their bloodline have a devastating amount of power. Long story short Freya had fallen in love and had a child but she didnt want the child born in to the misery she was in, and while Dahlia did make sure that Freya could not die, that did not help the child and Dahlia used Freya and hers powers to kept them under stasis and made sure they woke up every 100 years for I think a year if I remember all that correctly. Oh and Esther had told her husband that Freya had died of the plague that was amongst them at the time.

1000 years ago one of Esther's youngest son, Henrik, had been killed by the neighbouring wolves. Esther had been hurt by that so decided to make sure that her other children wouldn't leave her/ die on her she decided to turn them all immortal. She called to the sun for life, the ancient white oak tree for immortality and the magic blood of the Petrova doppelganger, which would allow them to be reborn as a new species. They then became the world's first vampires.

Esther had 7 children including Freya (Freya, Finn, Elijah, Niklaus, Kol, Rebekah, Henrik)

What they didn't know was that Esther had been unfaithful and had cheated on Mikael (her husband) with on of the neighbouring wolves. Her 'bastard' child had been Klaus. Nobody had known that so the first time he had killed a person -which happened to coincidentally be on a full moon- he was confused when his bones started to snap crackle and pop. He called for help from his own village and when they saw his eyes glowing a golden yellow instead of the blood red eyes that came out when they fed on people they knew that he was the son of a werewolf. The first thing they did was call Klaus' dad and brother (Elijah) to bind him whilst Esther sealed his werewolf side. It was a painful experience and a painful thing to watch.  Fast forward the village hates and is afraid— no— petrified of the Mikealson family and eventually the village gets slaughtered by Klaus.

I forgot to mention some details about the turning. After Esther called to the sun for life and the tree for immortality the Mikaelsons were taken to a room where they drank from a chalice that was filled with blood and then had a sword driven through them by their father. When they awoke the next day all their senses had been heightened x10 possibly more, they could hear and feel everything, they could hear the conversations that happened outside of their cabin and they could feel a spec of dust on their body. They later tried to go outside but the sun had burnt them. They went inside to their mother to ask her for help. Esther then created rings for them called daylight rings, allowing them to walk in the sun. 

Vampires cannot procreate.

How Hope was born and the prophecy: Hope's Parents are Klaus Mikaelson and a werewolf named Hayley Marshall. While vampires cannot procreate, werewolves can. Klaus was born a werewolf, magic made him a vampire. When Hayley and Klaus had a one night stand they had not thought anything of it. Hayley left and went to New Orleans after Klaus gave her some information about her pack. When she was there she got kidnapped by witches who had a suspicion that she was pregnant with Klaus' child. So they kept her there and sent a false rumour that the witches of New Orleans were conspiring against him to draw him to New Orleans. Klaus did not believe it because it had never happened before, harsh words were thrown, fists between Elijah and Klaus, therapeutic conversations with Camille happened and Klaus finally accepted it. Soon after though there was a prophecy made about Hope, basically saying Hope would be the downfall of all witches. This is all before she was born. There were many assassination attempts made on her life before she was even brought in to the world. When Hope was born she was nearly sacrificed, they had slit her mother's throat but since Hayley still had some of Hope's blood in her system due to the forced labour she was turned into a hybrid (vampire + wolf). It is important to note that Hayley was forced into labour.
