When Alex Harrison turned 17 years old, she had a realization: men fucking sucked. Sure, almost all women have had this thought, but Alex felt it in her soul. When she got to high school, she had been labeled as a bitch because, Lord forbid, you reject someone from the male species and crush his ego. She had been asked out on a date. She said no. That was it. Unfortunately for her, that meant that this man had decided that spreading rumors was the best way to deal with this rejection. Alex wasn't phased by the label, but it really told you all you needed to know about society these days. She decided to write a song about it. Alex had been writing songs since the day she saw a butterfly for the first time. She was 6, and the song repeated the word pretty about 15 times. This song, though, was deeper and more soulful.

She called it "f*ck off."

Maybe it wasn't as deep and thoughtful as she thought. Regardless, she decided to make singing her passion project. She asked her best friend Madi if she wanted to join her, and she accepted immediately. The rest is history.

Alex and Madi had been writing songs together since that day. Madi was a great fucking guitarist, and Alex was a great fucking singer. They worked together like two peas in a pod. Posting covers and original songs on YouTube with little to no production. With all the luck in the world, they went viral on TikTok. This is how everyone becomes famous these days. They called themselves "Double Helix." In honor of Madi's failed double helix piercing.

They were the it girls of rock and pop. Songs charted at #1 for consecutive weeks. They were a global phenomenon.

Sadly, stardom always came with a price. Alex was starting to be seen as a "bitch who hates all men." It was all really full circle. Obviously, most complaints came from men, but it was seriously starting to affect her image. Her management decided that to solve this issue, she needed to date someone for publicity. To make her seem "sweeter" and "desirable." It was all bullshit.

Reluctantly, she agreed to the condition that it lasted no more than 3 months. They got to work on picking her new boyfriend.

They picked Robert Keating.

Robert was also in a band. Alex knew this.

Alex had met Robert at a party in Dublin back when Double Helix went on their first world tour. It was safe to say that Alex hated his guts. He had been rude and stuck-up. She accidentally bumped into him and apologized profusely, and he scoffed and rolled his eyes at her. Which further proved her point that men sucked. It was a small interaction, but Alex had a tendency to take things to heart.

Ultimately, she felt like the luckiest and unluckiest girl in the world.
