I know people on both Wattpad and FF.net have mentioned that the pregnancy seems unnecessary.
I assure you, it's absolutely necessary. Ruby has been through too much in too short of a time, she needs an anchor to maintain what's left of her sanity.
Her family cannot provide that anchor, Ruby needs someone who can fully understand what it's like being what she is.
This is also consistent with Shin Godzilla's most powerful ability:

Scene Segment: Arise With Dawn
Scene Start: Blake
Sheets ruffled and crumpled under Blake as she slowly woke up. Bleary eyes blinked open from a deeper sleep than she had gotten in quite some time. Lifting herself up with a stretch and yawn, she gazed around the room to find Weiss's bed vacant and Ruby no longer dwelling in the pool.
'They must've gotten up before me....' Judging by the fact that the sun was already up and they were gone, they had likely gone to get some breakfast.
It was a good idea considering this was the first day of classes at Beacon. They would all need their energy......including the blonde slumbering in her own bed snoring like a Ursa in hibernation. Blake was tempted to leave Yang in bed with that gods awful racket she was making, but their entire team would be punished if Yang overslept.
Blake sighed as she grabbed a pillow off of her bed and tossed it at Yang, who woke with a startled snort and drool falling off of her chin.
"Hussawha?" With how Yang had woken up in a state of drowsy confusion and such a undignified noise, Blake had to bite her inner cheek to stop herself from laughing at her teammate.
Yang blearily rubbed her eyes as she slowly woke up from her surprise pillow to the face. Looking around the room in attempt to find what had awoken her, the blonde saw Blake struggling to stop herself from laughing, which made Yang pout a bit.
"You didn't have to wake me up with a pillow to the face, you know!" That was the crack that broke the dam as Blake started roaring with laughter.
"Good morning to you, too, snoring beauty." Blake responded after her fit of laughter had faded away to a set of small chuckles.
Growling from the verbal jab at herself, Yang threw Blake's pillow back at her, which knocked over the more lithe girl who squawked as she fell back on her bed.
