Rye took a deep, calming breath as the salty ocean wind brushed against his face as the morning sun glowed golden on his olive skin and his handsome brown hair, he leaned over the side of his boat and stared at the beautiful waves as they rocked calmly. The Darkfathom has been Ryes favourite boat since he was a child, his father was the quartermaster and his uncle was the captain, he grew up with his cousin and now they have both taken their fathers places. They have always been close, everyone on the crew has to call Harford Captain Newberry and Rye Sir Newberry but they just call each other first names which was commonly known as a sign of friendship and loyalty.

Unfortunately, Ryes break was cut short when a shout came from a member of his crew, he groaned and had to drag himself from the raised deck at the stern of the ship to the deck where the shout came from. By the time he got there most of the crew had gathered around, Rye could barely hear himself think over all the whispers and talking.

"QUIET!" Rye yelled over everyone, "Now, someone explain what's happenin?" his rough voice and cold gaze caused most of the pirates to avoid eye contact and stand awkwardly.

Eventually, someone spoke up "Sir, come look at this for yourself." Everyone moved out of Ryes way, giving him a clear view of what everyone was talking about. His face twisted into confusion, infront of him lay a siren.

The half man half fish looked as if he'd been plucked straight out of folklore, his beautiful blue eyes were filled with fear, his eyes matched his tail and he subconsciously tried to curl up in himself. Slowly and carefully Rye moved closer, when he was close enough he slowly dropped down and rested in a squat like position in front of the creature. After he studied the sirens body he spoke again breaking the silence that hung over the crew, "Well then, what's your name?"

The siren cleared his throat and spoke softly, his voice sounded alluring like you could get lost in it "What makes you think I'd wanna tell you?" he tried his best to challenge Rye but failed immediately, he looked too scared and too soft to do anything.

Rye sadistically smirked, "you're trapped in a net on a pirate ship with the most ruthless crew this world has to offer, if you don't tell me your name you'll be dead in a flash." The siren gulped, he murmured so quietly that not even in the silence no one could make out what he said. Rye kept his smirk as he leaned in closer "louder."

"Cassian! My names Cassian!" he finally yelled, he turned his head away from everyone in the crew. Rye moved back slightly but he held Cassians chin, forcing Cassian to look at him directly in the eyes.

"Good boy~" Cassian blushed but tried his best to keep a strong defiant face, Rye let go of him and turned towards the crowd "everyone get back to work! And someone get Harford for me." A bunch of "aye aye sir!" came from the crew as everyone started working, one of the cabin boys immediately ran to the captains quarters and got him as fast as he could.

Rye studied every single feature on Cassians face and body, memorising everything while they waited for the captain. Cassian still refused to look him in the eyes, he couldn't see Ryes smirk anymore and it only grew when he saw Cassian wouldn't look at him. Captain Harford Newberry looked less than pleased as he walked towards them, he was clearly tired and sick.

"Rye. I swear to god if this isn't important I'll have you hanging by su-..." Harfords stuffy voice grew quieter as he saw Cassians bright blue tail, his face remained indifferent but Rye could clearly tell he was shocked.

"Quite the catch ain't he?" Rye teased and raised Cassians chin again, this time to show him off to Harford. Again Cassians face remained as brave as he could try to keep it, unfortunately for him both Rye and Harford could see through his try hard brave face.
