April's POV
All eyes shot to me as I backed away from the table.
Should I run?
I might be able to get to my car before he reaches me.
Mate. Eden, my wolf snarled.
I know, that’s the problem.
He will follow our scent…
Damn.
Stupid mate bond.
“April, we can explain.” Zoey said as she slowly stepped towards me.
I must look ready to bolt. If I’m being honest I am.
“You don’t have to be afraid. He won’t hurt you. He’s a…”
“Werewolf.” I interrupted, making them all fall silent.
Zoey’s eyes widened.
“You know about werewolves?”
Really?
I mean she’s human and so is Seth, but the others should have figured it out. Well, I guess I hadn’t figured them out so fair is fair.
“Takes one to know one.” I drawled, unable to keep the sarcasm out of my voice. It always comes out when I don’t need it too.
“Seriously, is the whole town full of wolves?” Seth exclaimed, throwing his arms in the air.
The sexy guy, my mate. Stood up and walked towards us. Still not saying anything, just silently staring at me.
Taking another step back, I raised my hand, stopping him.
“Don’t come any closer, I want nothing to do with you. Do you understand?”
Instantly, he stopped, his eyes wide as they met mine again.
God, those eyes.
So blue, I could have mistaken them for the ocean.
My lips twisted into a grimace as the air filled with pine and aftershave, both me and Eden reacting to his scent. Drawn to it.
How can someone smell sexy?
Like, he smells like good sex…
How is that even freaking possible?
Stupid, stupid mate bond.
Zoey’s boyfriend or I guess probably mate, walked towards her, his arm wrapping around her waist. He looked between me and my so called mate before sighing.
“My name is Hunter, this is Conrad my Beta. If you would be open to it, we can all sit down and figure this out.”
Beta. Of course, he’s the freaking Beta. Meaning Zoey’s hunk is Alpha King. If I had gone to any of the stupid pack events, I would have recognised them when I walked in.
“No, I have to go.”
I bit back a growl. Honestly, I wanted to scream but yelling at the pack’s Alpha is only going to get us in trouble and we can’t afford that after last time.
Without sparing another glance at my mate, Conrad, I turned and ran out of the café, going straight to my car.
My bag was in my locker, but I couldn’t care less, I can get it tomorrow. I just need to be away from my mate before I do something I’ll regret.
“What the hell am I going to do?” I asked myself as I pulled up outside the workshop.
As soon as I walked into the messy garage, Jasper ran up to me. His arms in the air as he cheered.
“Auntie Lynn.”
Laughing I scooped him up, bear hugging him as I walked us to the back office.
His arms wrapped around my neck as he held on for the ride. He was starting to get too big to be carried around. Although he’s only three, werewolf pups always grew up quicker than humans. He looked two years older than his actual age.
Dax’s eyebrows raised as I walked into the office, with a glance at the clock he shook his head.
“Ditching work early are we? I told you, I’m not buying you parts for that lost cause of a bike.”
Glaring at him, I put Jasper down, pushing him in the direction of his playroom. Otherwise known as the staff room. As soon as he was out of ear shot I turned on my stupid brother.
“I’m not ditching, I had to leave.”
He snorted. “Oh really? Whys that?”
“Because I met my mate.”
He straightened, his gaze turning serious.
“Josh is in Redwood?”
Of course, he goes straight to Josh, my former mate. The asshole is the whole reason we had to move to this stupid town in the middle of nowhere.
“Not Josh. Someone else.”
A mix of emotions crossed his face, shock, fear, jealousy, before finally landing on anger.
“A second mate?”
With a nod, I paced the room.
I’m a pacer. Sue me.
I wore my carpet out pacing over my last mate, I’m sure this one won’t be any different.
“What did you do?”
I glared at him. “What do you think I did? I told him to fuck off and I ran.”
“Of course, you did.” He flashed me an amused grin.
“This is not funny! I don’t want to go through all this shit again.”
“Neither do I, moving’s a bitch.”
My lips quirked up in a tiny smile, and I dipped my head in a nod.
This is why I love Dax, of all my brothers, he’s the calm one, always chilled and easy to talk to.
It’s not like I could go to Kody and complain about my mate problems.
“What am I going to do?” I whined, letting a massive breath of air out as I headed over toward the couch. Collapsing onto the grey cushions, I kicked my feet out over the arm rest and stared at my brother.
He flashed me an apologetic grimace as he shook his head.
“I don’t know Lynnie. I guess that’s up to you.”
“I was afraid you’d say that.”
He chuckled as I groaned, sinking further into the couch.
What the hell am I going to do. I have another mate. And he’s the Beta of my new pack.
Why did he have to be the Beta?
I’m so screwed.
