Kaia's point of view
It's lunchtime and I'm starving. I have a client whose company got sued cause they misled the public and I have been solving this for the sake of the law firm where I'm working at. Don't get me wrong, I love my job and it is my dream to be a lawyer at this law firm, but sometimes it's just hard to understand things at the moment when your life is just falling apart, your fiance is cheating on you with your best friend. I knew something was going on between them since college.
"Hey, you wanna go get lunch?" I snapped out of my thoughts when my coworker Maya approached.
"I would love to, but I'm still getting this done"
"girl, you're gonna starve to death, come on, You can come back at it" Maya knew about my situation with my fiance. I swear she is the girl friend you wanted in life. Sometimes I think why didn't I meet her earlier?
"fine." I sigh as I reply Maya, but you know what I'm glad she came. Things didn't go well when I starved myself for a case.
I get up from my desk and straighten my clothes. And me and Maya are off to get lunch.
__________
Lunch was not that interesting. Me and Maya were just talking about our clients, and how some of the old guys are just creepy and control freak. We can't really ignore these kinds of people in politics. You were laughing and gossiping with code names.
As I finished my lunch, Maya asked me "So how is your situation are you gonna move out?"
"Well, yeah, um, we cleared things out last night. he said he could live without me and that he doesn't care anymore. Anyway, he was talking shit about me and he said my best friend is in bed than me." I chuckled
"You can call whenever you need me, okay? I'm here for you." Maya gives me an empathetic look and I just can't think, but what do I do to deserve this, I worked my ass off for my career, and I did everything but bad things and this is what I get?
"Thank you, Maya. I appreciate it" I give out a small smile. After minutes, we went back to our offices and did work stuff.

3:45 PM.
My phone rang as I was signing the paperwork. I see that it's Arthur, I tried to ignore his calls but it's the 10th time he's been calling me so I have to answer it before I toss my phone out of annoyance.
"what do you want, Arthur?" I said as I picked up the phone cutting him completely off.
"Kai, I am so sorry about last night and what I did. I- I was drunk and I didn't know what I was doing. Please forgive me." Arthur plead.
"After last night, you can't take back for what you said. I mean, cheating is already bad enough and you cheated with my best friend, that's just Satan's spit Arthur."
"I swear, I'm sorry, just please give me another chance. I won't do it again and I won't hurt you again."
"don't call me again Arthur, we're done." I snapped then I ended the call.
Tears were already forming in my eyes. We can't believe I just wasted five years of my life, dating this idiot and being friends with someone who is jealous of me.
I shook my head to clear up my mind and continue my work.

Being a lawyer has been my biggest dream since a lawyer fought for me in the courtroom. A woman who's willing to help a helpless 7-year-old girl just makes me feel like there's still hope in this world every time. I was an orphan, my birth parents left me in front of a bodega. Life wasn't easy when you were an immigrant back then, the owner handed me to the police station. At least that's what the Children Services told me. I have witnessed part of the city where drugs are their life, most of my foster families were drug abusers. If I get lucky and jackpot a better foster family, they usually end up sick and die. Mrs. Davis was a great foster parent, but sadly, she passed away because she had a heart attack.
