Flashes of lightning haunted the cafeteria. Even with the flickering light bulbs that tried it's best to light up the empty room, voices filling up the empty space. This time, though, the voices couldn't mask the thunder that rumbled outside, sending chills to anyone who was quiet enough to listen to the thunder.

I chewed the fry from the tray that also had water, macaroni and cheese, and of course ketchup. Slowly chewing as I felt Percy look up at me, turning my attention to him. He finished his last bite of the fries and turned his attention back towards me.

"So," Percy began as he threw another fry in his mouth, chewing again.

"You excited about the tournament tomorrow?"

I scowled, leaning over the table, hands crossed.

"Not with this weather."

I put down the cup of water and tilted my head at the glass window across the cafeteria, revealing all the droplets of rain that were dribbling down the glass outside. On the other side of the glass, all there was to see were grey clouds blocking out the sky, only the mountains in the horizon could be seen from all the rain that came rushing down to the ground.

Percy cleared his throat, waiting for me to turn to him. Which I did, sighing.

"I heard their not cancelling the tournament."

My head fell to the table, buried in my hands. Strands of hair fell to the side of my face, fully covering my face. A small groan escaped my mouth as I laid there, annoyed and angry at the staff, for making us continue the tournament during a thunderstorm.

I could feel waves of frustration hit the sides of my temples, causing more headaches. My eyes waited there, shut. I could hear my own breaths as I inhaled and exhaled, my forehead pressed against the plastic table.

"Hey, Addie," Percy cooed, tapping my shoulder. He leaned over the table and continuously tapped on my shoulder. Yet I didn't move. Only sat there quietly, looking like a statue.

"C'mon, you can't sit there your whole life."

I lifted my head up and looked up at Percy, concentrating on his eyes. A small frown faded in on my face, without me even trying.

"I will if I have to." I barked back, a little to harshly. Percy leaned back, shocked from my response. I dropped my head back into my cupped hands. Percy sat there, silently, not knowing what to say. Even though I wanted to look up and talk to him more about the tournament and strategy, I kept my head buried in my hands. Acting like I was to mad to want to talk- even though I did.

"Okay talk to ya' at the tournament, Adeline!" Percy said. I could hear him shuffling, so I looked up, regretting it immediately. He waved to me without looking back as he ran near the exit of the cafeteria, to Annabeth.

I looked away, disgusted, as Percy hugged Annabeth, talking to her. Probably about the tournament, and how they should team.

My headache slowly disappeared, a new wave of feelings hitting my head. This time, it was jealousy. The more time Percy had with Annabeth, the less time he had with me. Soon, he would have no time for me... Only for her.

Instinctively I looked back at Percy and Annabeth. But they had already walked out of the cafeteria together, leaving me alone.

Turning back to face my tray full of food, I felt as if I couldn't stop thinking about Percy and Annabeth. The thoughts formed a lump in my throat, along with thoughts of the tournament tomorrow.

Lightning still flashed every now and then. The rain still dripped down the glass, and beat down the ground, forming puddles out in the muddy field. Now with the tournament starting tomorrow, it would be more difficult to fight people while trying not to fall from the slippery mud.

The only noise I heard other then the non-stop talking from the other campers in the cafeteria and the rain that slammed itself onto the metal roof and thunder that rolled through the hills, was the noise of my own heartbeat beating in unison with the rain.

Knowing that I had to step up my game to Annabeth, I knew I had to come up with a plan. Something that would show Percy I'm the one he should be hanging out with, I'm the one he should be laughing with!

Grover walked over to my table and sat across from me, smiling.

"What's got you so worked up A?" He asked, waving, while setting down his leather back pack that he recently got. From the back pack, he pulled out a peanut butter and jelly sandwich wrapped in seren wrap.

"Sorry, it's just that, the tournament has got me worried."

I looked past Grover, not able to make eye contact, hoping he wouldn't be able to tell if I was lying or not about what I'm so worried about. Yet the 'tournament' lie seemed pretty believable..

"What? Afraid Percy won't partner up with you?" He whined, mocking a crying baby. While with his free hand, he unwrapped the sandwich and bit into it. I knew he was making fun of me, but I couldn't let that get to me.

I leaned over the table and picked apiece of his sandwich off, and threw it into my own mouth, smirking.

"No! Heck no! I'm just worried about..." I looked around trying to think of a lie for my excuse, and couldn't come up with any at the time. I turned my head in all directions, trying to come up with one quickly. As Grover waited there, holding his bite to listen to my lie.

He lifted his eyebrows as I impatiently looked around the cafeteria. Desperate for an excuse. And then it hit me like a truck. A small smile tugged at the corner of my mouth because of the excuse I had thought of.

The excuse seemed perfect; slippery mud to fall on.

"...The slippery mud."

Grover slowly bit into his sandwich without moving his eyes away from me, concentrating on my eyes. Yet I didn't look back at his, only away from his. He narrowed his eyes at me, focusing. Trying to tell if I was lying or not.

"I don't want to slip...or trip while I'm... fighting someone!" The sentence almost came out like Obama's speeches, full of stuttering.

I could see Grover shrug in agreement. Not knowing if I was telling the truth or not, but just went with it. Since it seemed believable to him.

"Well then I'll be the one to root you on!" He cheered with food in his mouth.

"Yeah, thanks." I responded back quietly, faking the widest smile I could. At least he bought it though.
