I do not have a single clue of how I ended up being in the same spot as the biggest Hollywood actors and the hottest models in town but yet, here I am, standing by the wall of this prestigious-furniture-filled room. I guess people were also wondering why on Earth an R&B singer that writes about how life sucks was present in an Richard Mille's private event. Or maybe no one knew me, hard guess. I drank in my already empty glass and turned to Julia, my manager and my only friend tonight.

"It kind of feels wrong for me to be here, doesn't it ?"

"Does it ? I thought you were doing pretty fine really." Julia responded, surprise clearly visible on her face.

"At least my Asian mom will be able to flex about her daughter. But I can't lie, this place is actually very nice."

"Bare with it just for a few more hours, you know they have been interested in you lately. This could be good for us."

"Crazy right ? Daisy Li-Ahn as the new ambassador of Richard Mille, now that would definitely be a step-up"

Julia lightly laughed before adding on. "I think I just spotted the person I have been in contact with these last weeks. Let me go and test the water with him, I need to make sure he's serious. Be wise while I am gone !"

I sent her a quick smile and nodded my head. I might look okay with it, but I was definitely not. This was actually the worst case scenario that could happen. Finding my awkwardness and myself, alone in a crowded place ? A nightmare. I fought my inner self not to pull out my phone and let the weather app save me and walked towards the buffet instead. If I had to survive through the night, I might as well do it with a full stomach.

I bopped my head to the background beat and read the cocktails menu, trying to occupy my mind.

"You might want to try the Bramble one"

My head turned to the voice visibly addressed to me. I frowned my brows and looked back at the piece of paper placed on the counter, searching for whatever the man just said.

"I am afraid I am not a big gin fan" I admitted, turning back to him.

"That's a shame, there is a gin supremacy in the UK, you can't escape it."

"Oh, is there really ? I didn't know."

One thing for sure, my non-skills for small talks were terrifying.

"Yeah, that's what I thought, you are not from around here, correct ?" He added on.

"Good guess, what gave it away ?"

"I can recognize an Aussie accent when I hear it, my ears are pretty well trained." he proudly smiled before shoving a little snack in his mouth. "How did you end up here ? PR stuff or invitation ?"

"Both ? I actually feel like an impostor right now, to be honest with you."

"Tell me about it. You usually get used to it pretty quickly though, no worries."

My eyes found his green ones. Alright Daisy, time to bring out your outgoing self.

"Wait. Ain't no way you did that. In what kind of context are you willing to shave your head just to piss off your parents ?"

"Listen. I had something to prove. I was transitioning from boy to man. And I actually got to spend the entire evening at home playing video games instead of following my parents to that family dinner." He laughed when he saw my flabbergasted face. "They were so pissed." He proudly added on.

"How old were you again ?"

"Twelve and a half ma'am."

"Damn.. A win is a win huh ?"

I changed the crossing of my legs as I pulled off an umpteenth blade of grass, letting the fresh smell float in the air. The nice breeze blew my hair and I took a deep breath, closing my eyes. The music was still loud in the main room and I was grateful that the backyard was quite empty, it was getting pretty suffocating in there. My phone on the lawn buzzed, revealing a text message from Julia: Our car just arrived my lady

"Well, that's my call." I announced, before standing up from the ground and brushing off my pants "Thank you for spending your time with me, I am very grateful."

He imitated me to reach his full height. "Thanks to you for listening to my stories, I am glad I was able to make you feel more comfortable."

My lips curved in a sincere smile as I waved him goodbye, starting to make my way to the main entry.

"Hope I get to hear your stories next time, I'm sure you have plenty of them !" The curly haired man shouted before moving away in turn.

Next time sounded good.

Well hello there,

Welcome welcome !

I started to write this story a few months back and I thought I might as well share it with you all. I always loved to read books but never really tried to write something (or at least not consistently). This is kind of a double challenge for me : first writing experience and in English, which is not my native language, please bare with me if you see any grammatical atrocities haha

Anyways, back to the story, it is a work of fiction : not everything is true to what happened in real life, I purposely switched up some things so it can fit better with the flow. Just so you can situate yourself better, the grid is the 2022's one ! No worries, you shouldn't be lost :)

I really hope you'll have a great time throughout this whole journey with me !

Much love,

Sophia
