"No, I like you very much. Just as you are." -Bridget Jones diary
As I walked into school with Zyon by my side, I couldn't help but feel a surge of nervousness. My newly dyed blonde hair obtained many looks from people, I felt their eyes all over me.
"Not to brag, but your hair looks amazing." Zyon exclaimed, patting himself on the back ignorantly.
"Thanks, Zyon. I'm just hoping Holden notices," I replied, trying to sound nonchalant.
"Oh, he will definitely notice, the blonde is blinding." Zyon joked. We made our way through the halls, and I couldn't help but notice the stares and whispers directed my way. I thought I was completely invisible up until this moment. I guess everyone thought I was a new student.
As we approached our lockers, I caught sight of Holden standing nearby, his eyes widening in surprise as he took in my appearance. Zyon whispered to me as he noticed Holden approaching. "Here comes, Mr. Dreamy."
"Jane? Is that you?" Holden asked, his voice tinged with disbelief.
"Yeah, it's me," I said, trying to sound confident.
Holden grinned, his eyes lingering on me for a moment longer than necessary. "Wow, you look incredible."
My heart skipped a beat at his words, and I felt a rush of warmth to my cheeks. I fidgeted with my bracelet, nervously.
Just then, Alexis came in, her expression sour.
"What's going on here?" she demanded, her eyes narrowing at me.
Holden shot her a warning look before turning back to me. "Nothing, Lex. Jane just decided to switch up her look."
"And, it's working for her," Zyon added with a smile.
Alexis huffed in annoyance before turning on her heel and stomping off down the hallway. I stopped my jaw from dropping as this happened. Did Holden just defend me to Alexis?
"Thanks, Holden," I said, feeling a surge of gratitude towards him.
"No problem. Hey Jane, do you want to hang out after school today? A bunch of us are going to William's house to watch movies," Holden said, his voice hopeful.
My heart soared at the invitation. Holy crap. Holden is inviting me? To hang out with him? I was bursting with excitement, but then I remembered Zyon standing beside me.
"Can I bring Zyon along?" I asked, turning to look at him.
Holden hesitated for a moment before shaking his head. "Sorry, Jane. It's just gonna be us."
I felt a pang of disappointment at his words. I felt guilty, but i knew Zyon would understand. "You don't mind, do you?" I asked Zyon with a soft I'll-make-it-up-to-you smile.
Zyon managed a weak smile. "Of course not, Jane. You should go have fun."
"Thank you, Zy. You're the best! I'll make it up to you, I swear." I said as the bell rang. I smiled at Holden and parted ways with him and Zyon to go to class.
