THE VOW !I struggle to separate my eye lids that were glued together, it was blurry and painful for some seconds when they finally opened but nevertheless, i manage to.
I moved my cannula hand and grabbed my head that was spinning—rubbing onto the forehead that lead to me getting some heart wrenching flashes.
After taking in my surrounding, I realized I'm in a hospital and on a hospital bed.
My bandaged head and all of my body hurt, but not as much as how my heart squeezed from an unbearable pain.
"She woke up!" I heard a voice so far from me. I craned my head and sigh as i found them looking at me in tears.
My mom and three of my younger sisters; Hafsa and Nesma were so sad, glued together on a sofa.
They make their way to the bed, asking me how I'm feeding, with concern and a love that I'm certain will never change.
A love i can't doubt.
"So i am not death!" I word to which they chuckle.
Moments later the door open and a doctor come into view follow by a woman
The doctor examined me, he said everything is normal which was a relief, upon his departure, i stare at the black suit woman who somehow look familiar.
After he leave the woman looked at my mom and she nod.
"Hi Mariam, I'm khalsom Maikudi!" She said calmly and elegantly.
She was beautiful! A beautiful elderly woman!
I blink. "And?!" I couldn't help but ask, though it appeared mean. But what could i do?
People can't be trusted now!
She smile and step forward, sat on the chair beside the bed and hold my hand, i flinch from the contact.
"I heard when you leave Sultan's residence, you bow to revenge everything they had done to you!" She stopped, eyes scanning my face.
"Yes," I murmured as the smiling faces of Sultan and Yasmina pop in my head, but then, i realize, "how did you know?!"
She shrug. "I have my sources, the point is that, I'll help you,"
"Why?!" I inquired, examining her actions, why'll she help a stranger?
She sigh. "I have something on them, but the reason was, i worked with your father, he was a good man," she trailed, "even if i don't have something on them, i can't sit back and watch his family suffer."
So she was dad's acquaintance, that's why she looked familiar.
She stood on her feet, her eyes looking at me. Then she ask my mom to made me understand.
Mom nod in agreement. "She'll help you, shade and protect you," my mom begin. "Mariam, you have to stand up for your family, or will you not?!"
I'll, of course!
"Mom i don't say i'll not, but," i looked at Khalsom, "I can't trust a single soul apart from my family after what i witnessed yesterday!"
