ME AND THE DEVIL
01. - Lucifer Morningstar

Jazlynn quickly walked through the precinct, two coffees in hand. She swerved in and of people, avoiding the chance of being bumped into. Clutching onto the hot liquid, she hoped it wouldn't spill on her chest. Letting out the breath she didn't know she was holding, she set the cups where they sat safely on the counter. The blonde tucks a lock of her hair behind her ear, letting out a relieved sigh.

"You're late."

Jazz spins around to see Ella push open the doors into the forensic lab, greeting her with a smile. "Luckily I'm the only one who noticed. You've had so many strikes already, one more could cost you your job." She says.

Jazz looks to the floor, apologizing quietly. "The line at the coffee shop was long then I expected and-"

"Jazz, there's no need to apologize to me. I just don't want to lose you. You're an amazing forensic partner of mine, I'm not sure what'd I'd do if you weren't here every time I had to run DNA." She says, shooting her a bright smile.

The blonde smiles lightly in return, grabbing one of the coffees. She spins around and hands it to Ella. "Thanks, Ella." She says softly. "That means a lot."

The girl beams as she takes the cup. "You're one of the very few people here who understand me." She says. "And the only one who will willingly accept a hug." She takes a drink of liquid, eyes widening as it contacts her tongue. "Hot!" Ella says, sticking her tongue out and waving her hand to fan it out.

Jazlynn takes the cup out of Ella's hand, shaking her head with an amused smile on her lips. "I mean it, Ella, it means a lot to me." She explains, setting the drink down again. "Not even my own sister has said something like that."

Ella attempts to gaze down at her tongue, but when it doesn't come into view, she pulls it back into her mouth. When she's done, she meets the blonde's gaze and shoots her a painful smile. "We can all admit that Chloe is a bit..." she narrows her eyes, attempting to phrase things without insulting Jazz's sister.

"Boring? Bitchy?" She suggests.

Ella shrugs. "Whatever floats you boat." She pauses, catching her breath as if she'd been speaking too quickly. "My point is, your sister might not appreciate you, but I do."

The blonde smiles. "Thanks, Ella."

The girl beams, flinging her arms open and suggesting a hug. When the blonde pulls her in, accepting her embrace, Ella squeezes her tightly. However, the moments ruined as Jazzlynn's phone rings.

Jazz groans, sighing as she pulls out of Ella's arms. She digs in her pocket and pulls out her phone, frowning when she sees her sisters name.

"Chloe?" She says after bringing it to her ear. The blonde walks away from Ella, watching as she attempts to take another drink of her coffee. She burns herself yet again, causing Jazz to chuckle into the phone.

"Hey, Jazz." Her sister replies. "Do you think you could swing down by Lux? We have a case down there that I need your help with."

"Lux?" Jazz asked, furrowing her brows, "You mean the club?"

"Yeah, there's been a murder just outside of it. I'm going in to question the owner here in a minute, so I won't be outside when you get her, but I'd appreciate it if you swung by and took a look."

Jazz glances to Ella who's still fanning her tongue. As the girl notices the blonde staring she gives her a thumbs up.

"What about Ella?" She asks.

"She's got her hands full already." Chloe explains. "I talked to her this morning."

Jazz frowns knowing she wasn't her sister's first choice. Then she turn back around to face Ella yet again, but this time she's flipping through case files. Chloe's sister nods before realizing she can't be seen through the phone, then informs the girl in the other end she'd be there soon.
