Like any other day, Alexa is in her room while studying. Bored out of her mind, she decides to check on her brother Max, wondering what all the yelling is from. She checks her brother's room and sees that his friend, Alan, is over. They are playing video games on his XBOX. She was done studying so she asks if she can join them in their games, of course, they say no. She shoots back, "'I'll tell Mom that you're not letting me play!" She loves getting her brother in trouble, though he never does since Max is the favorite, and mom would NEVER get Max in trouble when a guest is here. Max replies, "There isn't another controller anyway!" She stares at the unused third controller. Sighing, she goes to her room and decides to watch some TV and read her spells. She eventually closes her book and gets bored. She thinks to herself, "Who needs dumb magic anyway!"
A coupl ofe hours pass, and her mom comes in to ask her for dinner. She hadn't gotten any form of appetite but still went. Max's friend has left, making it much quieter. She stares, picking at her food while her brother is gobbling it up. Her mom asks, "So, how was your day? I already know what Max did today." Ignoring what Mom said, Max tells her about his "amazing day". Alexa zones out and starts hoping a girl her age would move into this town. Her family had a decent home, but they weren't rich or poor.
The day ends soon enough, and she's back on her way to her new school. No one has talked to her strangely enough, she is the new girl. Passing everyone in the hallways, she eventually finds her classroom. Sitting down, she looks around and decides to just draw. Aftermath class, she wonders why no one has noticed her even as the new girl. She gets lost looking for the science lab and decides to just roam the halls. Maybe she will meet a new friend? After what seemed like hours, she finally finds the lab, but it's empty. She saw no one in the halls but she just thought that they were at classes. No one is here. She ran out, looking at the empty streets, confused.
She ran home, but when she came home she felt as if time had shifted. It was her mom's day off, and there her mom was. She looked at Alexa. She looked mad. "Alexa, why aren't you at school?!" her mother shouts at her. Trying to spit out words, she runs back. Now everyone is back? Who is doing this trickery? Pondering to herself, she wonders how she can switch back again. She didn't enjoy the empty roads at first, but she had no power. She had no freedom! She decides that she would just casually take some stuff from the local store to practice magic on. She snaps back to reality, wondering if there are more than her and her brother with these uncanny abilities. Her brother barely mastered his weather control, so it couldn't be him. She decides to explore while no one is around. Then another thing came to her. Time probably paused! That's why it felt like hours! Is it her magic? She had different powers based on what constellations were in the sky. She has fun exploring, and then she sees an abandoned... an abandoned what? She couldn't tell. She was drawn toward the mysterious building. She decides to first see if anyone else was here. She bolts to her brother's school, hoping to find her brother but he's not there. She tries texting him; luckily he responds asking if she's stuck like this, too. She told him to come to his school, she waited about 20 minutes and there he was. She grabs his arm, and they are off.
