Sophie could hear Edaline calling her down for school

And it's not like she didn't want to go to school, it's just that Sophie was so tired that she NEVER wanted to leave her bed

Sandor- who was lingering outside of her door had decided to inform Sophie that her adoptive mother was calling her downstairs as if she couldn't already hear her

"Ms Foster, I think you may want to get changed and head downstairs. Your mother is calling" Sandor said after he knocked twice

"Fine, fine" Sophie grumbled unenthusiastically and then proceeded to change into her foxfire level 6 uniform which was a series of whites and greys

She really did not think the colour looked good on her, despite Biana, Fitz, and Keefe insisting she looked great in it

It was Keefe and Fitz's last year at foxfire which was disappointing, but Sophie knew that they would be around whenever they could,

and Keefe would probably try to drop in for annoying visits, seeing if he could get detention even if he wasn't at school anymore. And continue to pull a bunch of pranks.

Even after Sophie and Fitz broke up they had agreed that they were still friends, and still able to work as cognates.

Fitz had asked if she had ever missed being together and yeah, almost did but she thought it would be best if they were only friends.

because it was as if some feelings of romance had been fragmented into tiny irrelevant shards- like her feelings for fitz weren't necessarily gone but just-

Not big anymore

Sophie didn't know how to put it, but her feelings for Fitz were little to almost none after they had tried to see if they would work out, which they did not.

It was kinda like what Keefe described her and Dex's scenario as, she wanted her and Fitz to work well so badly in her mind but deep in her heart she knew they were better as friends.

On another annoying thought something or SOMEONE else was pulling at her heartstrings- and she could not get a grip of her emotions

One things she did love to play towards was denial

Even the somewhat anonymous person who Sophie may or may not have been implying she have a liking for would never like her as anything more then a friend to tease

She hated herself for changing her mindset so fast
For just dropping Fitz like that
But she couldn't prevent new feelings from happening. Because with Fitz almost completely out of her head- there was a LOT of room for other..

People

Stop, just stop thinking about him- he doesn't like you- why would he? There's one hundred other girls he could have- he could have practically any girl in the school! For goodness sake he could have BIANA, so don't think that anything is possible, because it's NOT
she told herself negatively

She was just his close friend with the weird eyes and the freaky powers

And even if he did enjoy calling her cute often, did he mean any of it? Probably not she thought to herself.

"Sophie! You alright up there?" Edaline yelled from downstairs

"Yeah! I'll be down in a second!" She replied. Snapping out of her web of confusing thoughts

Sophie left her room and walked downstairs- Sandor a few steps behind

"Did you sleep well?" Grady, her adoptive father, asked as she arrived in the dining room

"Yeah it was-" she paused considering her lengthy dream about a certain set of Ice Blue Eyes "it was great"

"Glad to hear it kiddo" Grady smiled, obviously not sensing Sophie's worry

"You ready for school?" Edaline asked with a smile

Everyone was relatively tamed currently even though the Neverseen was still active, but with a lot of the members whereabouts unknown there was no attacks or theories spiralling

But when they get the slightest break

Everything explodes in their face again,

so Sophie was trying to keep her guard up, trying to stay safe, and trying to make sure that they weren't vulnerable if the neverseen try to hit a chink in their armour

"Yeah I'm ready for school" Sophie answered, trying to mimic her mothers optimism but failed

"Bye Sophie!" Edaline said as Sophie made her way to the leapmaster and headed off to school

Well- maybe school can take my mind off problems
She thought

How wrong was she?

Sophie walked up to her locker and licked the DNA strip, not knowing why she expected it to taste good, because to her dismay

It did not

It tasted like a rotting orange sort of, if they had oranges in the lost cities

" To what do I owe the pleasure of seeing you here?"A male voice behind her asked while snickering at her contorted face from the DNA strip

Sophie turned around and was greeted with a tall blonde haired boy with striking ice blue eyes

"Hi Keefe" Sophie sighed

"What? Not excited to see the most handsome guy you've ever met? Fall any farther head over heels could ya Foster?" Keefe asked with a smirk

Sophie scoffed "can't forget how insanely modest you are too?"

"Absolutely! Can't forget about every positive trait I have! And the girls here are getting- REALLY swoony so I think I might just be the hottest elf alive" Keefe turned around and looked at the crowd of level 6s

They were probably wondering why a level 8 was on their side of the school, when he should have been in the elite towers

And also because MAYBE... just maybe Keefe was a little bit right

a LOT of girls were getting really swoony with Keefe

And for some reason it made Sophie... mad?

"Ah come on! Don't shoot me with that Foster rage! You know I'm not into any of them" Keefe laughed, then gave Sophie a wink and said "See ya later Foster"

Sophie was very flustered to put it the least

Keefe, why did Keefe have to get on her nerves so much

But WHY, did he have to be so cute at the same time
