"Mr. President? May I have a word with you?" Alexei asks as she goes into a empty room.
"Of course, Capt. Mikhailovich," Borodin says as he follows her. "What's this about, Alexei?" he asks as she sighs.
"I guess I'd better start at the beginning," she says as he raises his eyebrows. "Well, I guess everything begins with my birth. My true birth," she says, staring at the ground. "I wasn't born in Russia. In fact, I'm not even Russian," she says as she sits, her back against the wall...***Half an hour later***
"And that's why you can't tell, sir. If Kowaleski learns I've told you this, he'll kill me and my daughter," Alexei says as she stares at Borodin. "President Borodin-," she says as he holds up a hand for silence.
"Call me Yuri, child. Yuri," Borodin says as she smiles.
"Yuri, then. You've gotta believe me. Markovich can back me up. I told him everything, sir. My real husband is a United States Marine and my best friend is a captain in the United States Army. Both have an axe to grind with Kowaleski. If a war begins between Russia and the United States, it'll be because your generals began a war," Alexei says as Yuri raises his eyebrows.
"Generals? I thought it was just Kowaleski," he says as Alexei shakes her head.
"It began with Anton Harkov, a man I knew as Gen. Terry Westgate. Westgate originally told us we were to fly to Ukraine with the United States president to help negotiate peace between you and the Ukrainians," she says as Yuri runs a hand down his face.
"Isn't Harkov dead? I thought he had a stroke," Yuri says as Alexei laughs cruelly. "Stroke, my ass. Kowaleski shot him in the head. Just like he shot Gen. Hardbrook after he found out about me and Jeremy Burkhart," she says as Yuri pales. "What do you need me to do, Mrs. St. Claire?" he asks as Alyssa shook her head. "Just call me Alyssa, Yuri. Alyssa Blackwell, well, St. Claire," she says as he nods. "So, when is this rebellion going to happen?" he asks as she shrugs. "Whenever you leave for London, sir. Kowaleski discussed it at great lengths for a long time. He wants me to betray you," Alyssa says as Yuri exhales slowly.
"That means we'll have to catch him in the act. Him and the rest of his private army," Yuri says as Alyssa sighs. "How? I only know the faces of a few of them and besides," she says as she shivers. "Kowaleski didn't trust me enough to tell me everything," Alyssa says as she feels a few tears slip down her face. She put her hands to her face as tears tumbled down her face. "I can't lose my baby. She's the only thing that's kept me sane all this time. If it hadn't been for her sake, I would ran or talked sooner," she says as Yuri pats her on the shoulder. "There, there. It's okay," he says, trying to comfort her. Alyssa sniffles a couple times before she stares at Yuri again. "What do you suggest then? He knows, it seems, when I lie. I'm afraid to," Alyssa says as she stands. "You will return to your post. Try to behave as though you didn't have this conversation. The day we leave, I'll come to you early. We'll talk and discuss our course of action," Yuri says as he stretches and then exits. "Oh, and Miss Mikhailovich, clean the blood off your face," Mr. Borodin says as he exits the room. Alyssa stares at him a moment as she stretches. She then exits and goes back to Kowaleski. As his eyes look over her, she can't help but feel he knew about her talk. "Mikhailovich! Get back to training!" he snaps as she turns. As she walks away, thoughts of how she'd hang Kowaleski for his insubordination flew through her head...
