Scott wasn't sure how to feel, Mitch had been distant, which was abnormal to say the least. But when he mentioned this to Alex, the other man only shrugged and suggested that perhaps Mitch was just busy.
He'd been leaving more than usual over the last few weeks, leaving cryptic texts or notes in his wake that alluded to all that Scott and Alex could do in the house while he was gone, and while the blonde found it funny at first, after the third or fourth weekend in a row, Scott was beginning to feel uncomfortable, as if he'd done something wrong.
"You know, Mitch doesn't even really live here anymore, you should see if he'd be down to move out so we could move in together." Alex said one afternoon, while he and Scott cuddled on the couch.
Scott's movement was swift as he slid out from under his boyfriend over to the opposite end of the couch.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" he asked
Alex frowned, confused, "I just meant that I think he's been staying elsewhere for a reason."
"You think he wants to move out?" Scott demanded.
Alex only shrugged, "He might, I mean don't you guys talk constantly, haven't you asked him where he's been?"
Scott's frown only deepened. After sitting and watching the floor for almost an hour, he heard Alex stand up. He'd be lying if he said that he'd noticed the guy press a kiss to his cheek before he left. His mind was gone, he'd gotten lost in thoughts of his brunette roommate.
He wasn't sure how long he sat in their living room waiting for Mitch to come home, all he knew was that when the brunette finally walked through the door it was dark out, and Scott was mentally exhausted.
"Hey." Mitch said softly putting his celine bag on the Kitchen island.
Scott shook his head a bit to clear his mind. "Hey, long time no see."
Mitch resisted the urge to roll his eyes, even when inside he was rejoicing.
Scott missed me, he noticed I was gone.
"I spent the weekend at Kay's." Mitch said with a fake smile
It was a lie. Scott knew because Kirstie had called several times that weekend looking for him, each time Scott had spent hours trying to call Mitch and find out where he was, and each time Mitch had ignored his calls. He felt hollow.
Mitch has never lied to me before.
"You were with Kirstie just now?" Scott asked, dryly
Mitch nodded, he knew Scott knew it was a lie. He was sure Kirstie had called, but he honestly didn't know what else he was supposed to say. Without another word he headed back down to the car to get his bags and Wyatt, leaving Scott lost and confused.
I hate to say I need you
I'm so reliant, so dependent

Not In That Way (Scomiche)
FanfictionShort story about how Mitch and Scott wind up together. I was inspired by a song by Sam Smith called "Not in That Way" and I'm pretty excited about this one! I don't own any of the lyrics or the characters as they are human beings.
