Mitch returned home after dark, and though he thought the house would be empty, he was happy to see Scott's car parked in its stall. As he opened the door, he felt his heart stop. His song was coming through the walls, but he wasn't the one playing. The words were being sung by a deeper more soulful voice, and that was frightening.

"What the hell are you doing in here?" Mitch asked, his voice monotone as he stood in his doorway

Scott jumped, yanking his hands from the keys as if they'd been burned. "I just, I-I heard..."

"You thought it would be cool to invade my space?" Mitch said, he wasn't sure if he was more angry or embarrassed. Scott had to know now that the song was for him, about him.

"It's a beautiful song Mitchy." Scott said, trying to keep the sadness from his voice.

He failed, Mitch could hear it, "Are you ok?" The brunette asked

"Alex and I broke up." Scott said looking at his feet.

Mitch's heart squeezed, partly in sadness for his friends heartache, but partly in joy.

"What happened?" Mitch asked, walking into the room and sitting down on the edge of the bed next to Scott.

Scott froze, unsure if he should tell his friend the truth or if it would be better to cover it up and hope the hurt would go away. He needed to know where Mitch stood on all of this.

"Mitch, who is this song about?" Scott asked, ignoring the man's earlier question

Mitch's brow furrowed in confusion, "Why are you asking me that?"

And then Scott knew, he put all of the pieces of the puzzle together until he saw what he most needed to see. The song was for him, from Mitch. It was a confession of sorts.

"I'm sorry." Scott said sadly

Mitch nodded, he knew what Scott was talking about. Like the lyrics said, he'd never brought it up because he knew Scott would apologize, but he couldn't make himself feel the same.

"I know you are Scotty." Mitch said, willing the tears to stay away.

Scott reached out and took Mitch's hand, lacing his fingers through the brunette's and sighing.

"I mean that I'm sorry for making you feel bad. Alex and I broke up because of you." Scott tried again, hoping he was making sense.

He wasn't. At least, not to Mitch, who's heart was breaking at the realization that he'd caused both Scott and Alex so much pain.

"Oh Scotty, I'm so so sorry. Just call him and tell him that you don't feel the same! Tell him that it's all me and that I'm a big boy and I will get over it." Mitch said, none of it was what he wanted to say, but he didn't want Scott to be miserable.

Scott frowned, shaking his head and turning to look the tenor in the face, "What the hell are you talking about Mitchell?"

"You love Alex, Scott I get it. I didn't want you to know that I have feelings, I never wanted you to have to tell me you don't feel the same way, I never wanted you to break up with Alex, and I never meant you to hear...."

Mitch's rant was cut off by Scott's lips crashing down onto his, slowly at first, but the kiss burned with fire. Mitch felt like he was flying, his heart pounding so hard he feared he would pass out. Scott fought the urge to smile, he was just that happy, but he didn't want the kiss to end.

Mitch realizing what was happening was real pushed the blonde away and shook his head. "What the hell are you doing?"

Scott wiped his mouth and blushed hard, "You were talking too much."

Mitch laughed as his eyes filled with tears, "Why did you kiss me?"

Scott blushed even redder, but not a trace of embarrassment could be found in his face as he took Mitch's face in his hands and looked him dead in the eye.

"Because, I'm sorry, believe me. I love you in every way."

Mitch felt the tears fall and a smile spread. His brain rejoiced as he and Scott shared another kiss.

Finally.
