Trigger Warning: Homophobia, Use Of Homophobic Slurs
Chapter 5-
Nico's P.O.V.
-Tuesday-
"HAHA, you're not the son of Apollo." I say to Will after he misses the archery target entirely.
He glares back at me. "You're not helping, Nico."
"I wasn't trying to, babe."
He isn't bad at archery or anything. He's better than most of us, naturally. For the past couple years, he hasn't been working on it since he's been the main healer more than anything else. The real reason he missed, is because I keep bothering him!
"Yeah, I got that." He says, turning back around and nocking another arrow. He pulls back the string. "I get it, ha ha, Apollo kid can't defend himself. How hilarious."
"I'm just saying...I haven't seen him do anything that cool with a bow and arrow, but I know he has. Maybe you could get lessons from Kayla before you teach me?"
"We're kind of just messing with it, if you actually want to learn, we could invite her next time." He says, shooting the arrow. This one at least goes into the target, but it's on the very outer edge.
"Are you distracted?" I poke his side.
He shifts away. "I am when you're poking me."
"What? I didn't do anything." I put my hands in my pockets. I'm really stalling showing off my own lack of skills with a bow and arrow, but to be fair, my father is the god of the underworld, of death...not of archery.
"Lies. You're also standing there all pretty, so how in the world am I supposed to focus?" He claims.
"Will, please. I am not pretty. I am ferocious."
"Hey, you can be both, ya know." He says, stepping back from the target. "Are you going to give this a shot, or do you want to keep watching me fail?"
I'd rather keep watching him fail. That would actually be way better.
"I'll try it, but you need to show me." I sigh.
He takes the quiver off and holds it out to me. "I know the basics, I just have... bad aim."
"Yeah, and you get distracted too easily," I take it, "I literally don't know what to do at all. I trained myself with my sword, and my powers, and that's pretty much all I have."
"Well, put that on and I'll guide you." He says, before walking away. He gathers up the few arrows he shot, before coming back.
I follow those instructions, at least, slinging it over my shoulder like he had it. "Fire it at you?"
"Ha, no. I'm the healer, we don't want to think about who's going to try helping me if I get hurt."
"Your siblings." I suggest, pushing my hair back and looking at the targets.
It's nice when we go to do something and we get lucky, and no one is over in that area. That's what happened here. It's not like there are a ton of people at camp right now, which is why I can train. I want to master more things, or at least get better at them.
"Exactly. That's why I'm concerned." He claims, before putting the bow in my hand. He positions it and moves my arm up. "There, this is the basic position you're going to want... keep your hand on the handle, and stand up straight."
I pull away from his touch instinctively, like my body doesn't know that it's just him and he's just helping me. I try to relax. "Sorry."
He steps back. "It's okay, I can do it without touching you, if you'd rather...?"
