Ellie
Once we get into the dugout, Tyler jogs out onto the field to talk to the head coach about the line up or some baseball gossip that needed to be shared.
Plopping myself down at the front of the bench, I swung my feet up and rested them on a bucket of balls for the game. After putting in my headphones and blasting some random music, I glanced over to check out how our competition was as they were warming up. I recognized the other team and remembered a few of the players since we've played this team before. Sighing and bringing my hands up to the back of my head, I shut my eyes and reflected on who we were playing today and trying to figure out who I need to warn my brothers about. Yes, I remember which players from pretty much every team we play and how dirty some of them can play just to win.
"Aye! Heads up, girl!" I barely had enough time to open my eyes before I saw a ball flying at me. Without thinking, I pulled out my headphones and caught the ball, seconds before it could've hit me. Instantly, ideas of what to say to the team that threw this straight towards me ran threw my head but when I got a clear head, I caught on that the other team didn't notice that I almost got hit was a ball and that my whole team was quiet and staring at me. I then realized that it wasn't the other team that threw the ball at me, it was my own team. I calmly walked onto the field and felt my team's eyes on me watching to see what I would do.
As soon as I was a couple feet from Tyler, he started talking while slinging an arm around me. " Babe, listen, calm down, okay? It was all a misunderstanding, I promise babe." He kept whispering "calming" stuff into my ear while we walked towards where the boys were anxiously waiting for me in the outfield.
"Who did it?" I abruptly cut Tyler's whispering off as we approached the boys. When no one answered, I asked again. "I said, who did it?" Silence. Again. "You know, thinking that y'all have known me since I was little, you'd think someone would fess up." They all kept still, looking around and started to mumble sorry when someone I've never seen before, walked through the mess of boys. He was about as tall as most of the boys, if not taller with brown hair that swooped up. He also had sunglasses on with a smirk that told you he had confidence.
"It was just a ball, chill." To say I was shocked was an understatement. His smirk grew as my mouth barely dropped. I could feel Tyler gasp and then gulp, almost scared to see what I was going to do.
"Just a ball, huh?" Without skipping a beat, I threw the ball straight at his stupid smirk and just as he was about to get hit by it, a glove came out of no where and caught the ball. Damn. So close. I connected the glove to Anthony. Of course, the most mature one of the family.
Everyone started laughing and the crowd of guys started to disperse, them going back to warming up for the game. I kept eye contact with the unknown guy and as soon as pretty much everyone was gone, Tyler nodded him towards us.
They did that weird guy handshake hug thing and Tyler looked towards me, giving me the be-nicer-than-you-just-were-face before he started to talk. "Babe, this is Sam. Sam, this is Ellie." I looked at Sam and took the time to really look at him. Along with athletic shorts and a black shirt with our school logo on a hat, he had a nice tan, and you could tell he had a great amount of muscle on him. I looked back up to his face and I saw he was checking me out just as much as I was to him. I scoffed and rolled my eyes as he looked back up to my face.
"You done?" I asked him with raised eyebrows, and he chuckled and shook his head. "I could be asking you the same thing, sweetheart." I shook my head, got out of Tyler's arm and started walking towards the dugout because the gam was just about to start.
As I was walking off, I heard a smack.
"Ow, Coach Tyler! What was that for?"
"I'm the only one to have pet names for her."
Remind me to thank him later.
