Ellie
Most people's favorite smell is the smell of some kind of food, or their favorite sound is a special song from their childhood. It holds a special place in their heart and they can recognize the sound or smell from pretty much anywhere. For me, it's the smell of the baseball field. It's hard to describe, and only people who truly worship the smell can understand it.
The sound of playful bickering between team mates, the crack like sound of when a baseball hits the sweet spot of a bat, the pop of gloves when a baseball is cupped into the leather holds a spot in my heart that couldn't possibly be filled with anything else.
Those sounds and smells ingulf me as I drive the school golf cart filled with my brothers towards the home team dugout.
"Thank you Elie-bear!" My brother Will, who's closest in age to me, says as he kisses my cheek and flings himself out of the golf cart, almost face planting in the process. Brother by brother, I receive a kiss on the cheek or a rub on the head, thoroughly messing up my already messed up hair. I chuckle and shake my head as all of my brothers are out of the cart, letting me drive it back towards the school to drop it off at the coaches office.
As I'm driving back, I take the time to think about my crazy brothers.
Staring from the oldest, Anthony and Aiden are twins and are seniors at our high school. Anthony is probably the most mature while Aiden is the most chill brother I have . They're both 6'2 and have very fit bodies that seem to drive girls at our school crazy. The biggest physical difference is that Anthony has blonde hair and Aiden has dark brown.
The next oldest is Dathon who is also a senior. The twins and Dathon are only 9 months apart so they're all in the same grade. He's the sweetest and the most caring when it comes to our family.
After Dathon is the second pair of twins, Jackson and Jay. They are Juniors and a lot of people get confused between the first pair of twins and then Jackson and Jay, so I call Jackson and Jay the 2J's just to make it easier. Both Jackson and Jay are a little more pale than the rest of us, but they also have the adorable dimples that everyone loves.
My last, youngest brother is named Will. He's also a Junior and is definitely the biggest player out of all of my family. Even if all of my brothers are single and extreme players, Will pulls the most.
And finally me. My name is Ellie and I'm a Junior. I'm supposed to be a sophomore, but I skipped a grade when I was younger because I knew the material already. I'm not the girliest girl but some say I'm pretty. I've never had a boyfriend simply because every guy I know has been threatened by my brothers to not date me. So because of that, I have a lot of guy friends, but no boyfriend.
After thinking about my brothers, I realize I had been in the school parking lot for 5 minutes without noticing. Quickly hopping out and pulling the keys out, I walked into the school towards the baseball coach's office.
"Well, if it isn't Miss. Ellie-bear," Coach Tyler, one of the baseball coaches said to me in fake surprise as if he thought I wouldn't be here for the boy's baseball game, " How have you been Ellie?"
"I've been pretty good Tyler, how about you?" I answer as I scan him up and down. Tyler is pretty tall probably 6'4 or so and is 23. Yes, you may be thinking, "What? How is he only 23 and a high-school baseball coach?" Well he's great at his job I guess.
"Nah, let's not talk about me, lets get going to the game yeah?" Tyler jumps up from his wheely chair and runs toward me full speed. I don't have anytime to react before he scoops me up and throws me over his shoulder while grabbing some golf cart keys and walking out towards the golf carts.
" Tyler! Put me down! C'mon why do you have to do this every time?" I yell while laughing and swinging from side to side.
He sets me down on the passenger side of 'his' golf cart and glances at me as he starts driving towards the fields.
"Damn Ellie, you just get more and more beautiful every time I see you, now don't you?" I take a second to process what he just said and then finally after a few moments, I look at him and sigh, " Damn Tyler, you just get more and more gay every time I see you, right?" As soon as this comes out of my mouth, we both crack up laughing at the truth of what I just said.
"Only you Ellie, only you," Tyler glances at me as he parks the golf cart behind the batting cages by the field, "and remember Ellie, only you know that... Right Ellie?" He raises his eyebrows at me, daring me to tell him a lie.
"Right babe, right." I say with a small smile, which makes him smile in return at my truthfulness. Tyler hasn't came out to be gay to anyone else yet, fearful of being judged by the cruel high-school guys or other teachers.
And with that, he walks over to the passenger side, kisses my cheek and we walk to the dugout where the team awaits for the baseball game to start.
