The older boy takes a deep breath, he has no choice but to unravel the monsters hidden deep in the forest to make the mischievous boy truly understand how dangerous the outside is, and that what awaits them is only a tragic death if they follow in such a reckless and hurried plan. The older boy never underestimates the mischievous boy's intelligence but without the complete truth, all his decisions and plans will always result in being flawed. He can never know or figure out the truth because that's the best protection the older boy can offer.
Older Boy: - You often asked me what happened that day when Manak and I returned mortally wounded from one of our hunts a couple of months ago ... Do you still want to know?
Reckless Boy: - Of course, I still want to know, but why bring this up now?
Older Boy: - To prevent any form of fear and paranoia from appearing within our little group, we decided to lie and say we got attacked by the biggest pack because we ventured too far from the safe zone.
The older boy takes a deep breath.
Older Boy: - Manak and I decided to keep what happened there a secret and say it was the simple result of our recklessness and foolishness. But I have no choice but to tell you both the story, for this is the only way you will understand our true odds of surviving out there, and I'm sure if I explain to Manak, he would understand why I chose to do so. I need both of you to act normal, and control any form of reaction you might have. We can't arouse any suspicion, or have the story overheard by the girls, we wouldn't want to give them any more reasons for stress or panic.
The boys nod in agreement and stay silent. The older boy nods in agreement, serves the cards, and starts the same game as a cover for their real reason.
Older Boy: - In reality, the incident happened around 700 meters from the house, we were both foraging for food as usual, when Manak noticed something wasn't right, prompted by him, I noticed it too:' It was far too quiet. Luckily that day I was provided with the Twin Medallion, the twins saved our lives without even being there with us ...
I could have sworn that day we were laughing at one of the recordings played on the Twin Medallion ...
He returns to the fat boy
Reckless Boy: - Remember Bruce? The one where they were deciding the names of their future children.
Fat Boy: - Ah yes Ken. In that video, they argued quite a bit, but in the end, they reached an agreement, their father never liked those names but he kept his promise to her. Foolish you might think, but I found it honorable.
Reckless Boy: - For some reason, her last words in that recording stayed glued to my brain, their father said something like: It doesn't matter, you won't be there anymore so I'll name them how I want to, and we'll continue our argument in hell.' But she simply said with a wide smirk on her face: 'No! We will meet in heaven where I will thank you for keeping your promise'. I can swear it happened on the same day because I thought: 'I'd never thought I'd feel both extremities same day.
Fat Boy: - We have no way of keeping count of date and time, such confusions are bound to happen often.
Reckless Boy: - You are probably right; I can't even remember what I did a couple of days ago ... So, what happened next Virgil?
Older Boy: - Well, at Manak's request I did a scan and it revealed that a large pack was at around 800 m of us, normally I didn't panic and searched for anything useful that we might find, but Manak requested me to do another scan, and this time it was around 600 m from us in just a few seconds. Originally, I gave it no importance but Manak told me to follow him as he rushed away, I struggled to keep up with him until we reached a clearing, and he stopped around the center of it readying his spear.
