Just One Time

aurora's pov

Today's the day, Ellie could ring the doorbell any minute. I don't know how I managed but after two long showers and cleanings sessions while blasting Chase Atlantic, I was feeling more like myself. The adrenaline was keeping my mind busy, I haven't been to a race in quite some time. Guilt washes over me but I just try to shake it off, I can't deal with this right now.

I focus on doing my make up and hair, carefully applying my lipstick and taking rollers out of my hair. Looking at my reflection, I can't help but smile, I'm looking like myself. Please let it last.

incoming call: Ellie 🐔

My ringtone tears me out of my daydream, I run out of my bathroom looking for my phone.

——

Aurora
Hi, Ellie?

Ellie
What took you so long?
I'm outside, let me in girl

Aurora
I'm sorry I was finishing getting ready.
I'll be down in a sec, no need to come up

Ellie
Okay babes
See you but hurry please

Aurora
I swear I'll be down in a minute
Love you

Ellie
I love you too

——

As the call disconnects, I rush into the bathroom to grab my makeup bag and stuff it in my suitcase.

I take one last deep breath before I take my suitcase and bag and lock the door behind me.

Outside awaits my best friend Ellie, she's leaning on her black Jeep while scrolling on her phone.

"Ellie!" Her head cocks up, meeting my eyes, her lips form a warm familiar smile. She has the type of smile that makes you believe she's inherited the suns essence, she's literally beaming. I've always been kind of jealous of that.

"Aurora, you look amazing. Nice to know that you actually are alive, we've been worried about you."
As she talks she grabs my luggage out my hands and puts it in her trunk.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't want to worry you" I get in the car and continue talking when she finally sits beside me. "I was just feeling a little down, I don't know. Really it wasn't that deep, no need to worry." I smirk, know that I couldn't explain it even if I wanted to.

If she knew something was up then she was good at hiding it. Though I could have sworn that she had a certain glimpse of worry and pity in her eyes but maybe I'm just seeing things.

The remaining car ride to the airport, we were switching up between chatting and singing along to Taylor Swift songs.
