The gala was being held in the hotel we were staying in, closed to the public for the night which assured complete privacy. The doors were held open to the ballroom, a loud noise of people conversing filled my ears but quickly quietened as they noticed Dimitri. Nick was aside me, his eyes peeled for any danger or threats coming our way.
I felt my chest tighten when i saw the way all these powerful figures were watching me, definitely making their judgements about what they thought of me.
Dimitris face was stone cold, his presence alone taking ahold of the room of at least three hundred people.
His arm tightened around mine, reminding me that he was here.
'Dimitri!' A loud voice came, a man who looked the same age as Dimitri, which I didn't actually know yet, approached us, a girl beside him as they smiled.
Dimitri shook his hand 'Hello Jacob' He greeted, taking the women's hand after.
'And who's this pretty thing?' Jacob asked, taking my hand and kissing it.
'This is Adriana' Dimitri replied, his hand placed on my back.
'Nice to meet you' I smiled politely.
I had decided on the way down that i would do my best to make Dimitri look good today, knowing that if i could earn his trust i would be given more leniency when staying at the compound.
'Where did you two meet? Or should i say how much was she?' He laughed, looking to Dimitri.
I felt sick, he obviously thought i was bought as a prostitute by him, he wasnt far off but still his ignorance annoyed me.
Dimitri stiffen, clearly getting vexed by this man.
I laughed sweetly 'We met a few months ago, he was watching a ballet i was performing in and we got talking afterwards' I plainly lied, looking up at him and fluttering my eyelids gracefully.
Jacob looked taken aback, not expecting that at all.
'Unlike you Jacob, i dont have to buy company' Dimitri smirked, looking to the woman he was with before steering me away. I let him lead me, grateful for having a guide in this maze of danger.
'That was smart' He whispered in my ear as we walked through the ballroom, everyone parting ways for us out of respect but also fear for Dimitri.
I shrugged, taking a glass of champagne from a tray that was being carried around.
'No getting drunk, i dont need violent Adriana tonight' He warned, being handed his own glass of whiskey by a waiter.
I chuckled to myself, wondering how much it was worrying him if i were to pull something unpredictable.
'I wont' I muttered, not believing myself at all.
'Christian' Dimitri greeted, i was getting bored of all these introductions and men attempting to buy me, which weirdly had happened three times this evening.
Armen was beside us, glaring at many other men who he clearly disliked.
'If you'd excuse me, im going to the ladies room' I spoke, removing myself from the conversation gracefully and walking over to the bathroom, Nick following me from a distance.
As I approached the door i was stopped by a tall man, his hair was dark and although he was pretty handsome he held a certain suspicious demeanour, one that I immediately became wary of.
'Excuse me miss' he said, a deep Italian accent coming from his mouth.
I faced him 'Yes?' I replied, noticing how Nicks expression had changed to a more serious one and he came closer, just far away enough to listen without causing a scene.
