One Month Later... Alaric's POV

"The plane is ready, whenever you're ready to head this way," Xander notified before hesitating "What are we gonna do about her." I was aware of what he was asking. After the first time I had been with her I had Elija in charge of watching her. Had I chosen not to see her again it wouldn't have been necessary, but I did. Every day this past month I had come to see her.

I'd poured fuel to a fire that would soon spread because the right-hand man of the Irish mob had come to negotiate some bullshit arrangement for the missing millions they'd owed us, so of course I had to send a message by dropping a nice box with the head of their underboss at their doorstep. I had begun the start of a war that was to ensure casualties on both sides but it was necessary. A few hundred deaths were better than thousands.

In this business it was significant to establish a reputation and one screw-up could be your end. Soon I would be the head of the family. If people believed they could shit on me and nothing would be done then we'd all be fucked.

"Elija will stay to keep an eye on her. Have her kicked out of the apartment she's in now and moved into one of mine. After a month of no movement against her, he can come back to Germany." I get out of the car walking towards her apartment.

"Is that... all?" I pause watching the curtain to her apartment shift to the side revealing Emalia's wandering eyes before they connect with mine. I see the wide smile that lights her features and has drawn me in from the beginning. "Alaric." Xander's voice comes through.

"I'll be there in about two hours." I hang up the phone sliding it into my pocket as she emerges out of her apartment and down the steps.

"I thought you said you weren't gonna make it but then I heard your loud car so I thought I'd look to see if that was you and it was!" She comes crashing into me, wrapping her arms around me for the first time. I look down at her, her head a couple of inches from my shoulder. I stay frozen with my arms to my side not knowing how to respond to her affection. Over the past month, I've held her hand and plastered her to my side with my hand on her hip basically giving her a hug from the side but this feels different. For the first time, she touched me first.

She pulls away before I have the chance to do anything. "Sorry for the invasion of space, I'm just so happy you're here! The other day I went to the store and I saw these really cute bracelet kits so I bought one because I was really bored and I made us friendship bracelets. Come on I left them inside!"

She moves to go but I grab her hand pulling her back in and lifting her in my arms so I can comfortably wrap my arms around her. She's stunned for a moment but reacting much faster than I had she wraps her legs around my waist and her arms around my neck. "I'm so glad we became friends Baby Grey." She whispers into my ear.

I no longer liked the word friend.

In the past being a friend meant nothing to me, I was completely indifferent to the concept and word until I was hers. Now for some reason, I felt distaste whenever the word came from her to describe our relationship.

"I got you something too," I whispered in her ear. She squealed "What is it?" She was so excited she was practically choking me but I didn't mind as long as she was around me.

"You'll find out meine schöne." I felt her deflate and could imagine the pout on her lips.

"Fifty bucks for you to tell me." She negotiates as I begin to walk us towards her home. "You know you can set me down now right."

"No. And no thanks." At the 'thanks' she perks up and pulls to look at my face.

"I trained you so well!" She patted my cheek, and looking a bit shy I watched as an idea emerges into her head. She lowers her head, glances at me through her eyelashes, looks at my cheek, and immediately shakes her head and hides it from view by laying it on my shoulder.
