My dad decided to buy and old motel to run and a house across the street. The house was big enough for three people. Me, my dad and maybe even my boyfriend Morgan. We've been packing for a few days and we are about to leave right now! I'm kind of excited and scared because the motel is 127 years old and hasn't been visited since 1957. There could be dead bodies everywhere! Someone was currently living in the house so I'm not scared about that. But the motel might look a little rough.
My dad is coming in later than me and Morgan because he has work but he wants us to leave early. I don't know why though.
A few minutes later***
I was right. It looks pretty rough. Not too hard to fix up though. It has a green roof with reddish tannish walls. There are a few holes on the outside and the stairs are creaky. The porch is old and a dark brown. There are a few rails torn off. There are way too many rugs. They don't even match the walls. The furniture is covered in plastic. This place is kind of scary. There is dust everywhere! Eww! Cobwebs in the corners.
We are standing right inside of the house.
" I don't like walking around this old and empty house. "
"So hold my hand, I'll walk with you my dear." Morgan says with a slight smile on his face.
His voice is so comforting.
As we walk in it smells like someone hasn't lived there in forever. But someone lived in there a few weeks ago. There is so much dust. They don't like to keep it clean? There is no furniture and not as many holes.... Or rugs. There are a few lamps and the lighting is poor. I can't even see the floors very well. I trip a few times already as I've only taken 13 steps.
****
My dad is here and we are about to eat dinner and go to bed.
Yumm. It smells like baked potatoes, steak, corn on the cob, macaroni and cheese, crescent rolls, and a nice cold diet Pepsi.
As I walk into the kitchen for dinner I smell smoke. Candles, scented candles! My favorite, mint raspberry candles!
Me, my dad, and Morgan can't get enough. We keep eating eating eating and getting refills! My dad is a great cook!
"The food was great dad! "
"Thanks honey! Now you two go get ready for bed! We have a big day tomorrow!"
"Big day?"
"We are going to pull up carpets and completely empty the place out! And go look at paint samples!"
"Okay!"
"Goodnight Mr. Bates!"
"Please, Morgan, call me Sam."
"Okay! Goodnight.... Sam!"
***
Morgan has already fallen asleep. I can't even shut my eyes. All I hear is creaky stairs.
Creeeeeeak. Creeeeeeeak. Creeeeeeeeeeeak. Getting longer each time. It couldn't be my dad. He'd gone to bed. Which was right next to mine.
I tiptoed to Morgans room.
"Morgan?"
He started to open his eyes. Slowly.
"Yes?"
"What's the noise on the stairs?"
"Huh?"
"The creaking."
"There is no creaking. Go to bed!"
"Yes there is! Come to bed with me!"
"Fine. Fine. Fine. Let's go."
We walk down the hall to my room and lay down. There is the creaking again.
"Morgan, do you hear that?"
"No!"
"The stairs creep as you sleep! It's keeping me awake! "
"That's the house telling you to close your eyes!"
I close my eyes. It takes everything I have. For some reason I feel someone else's presence in the room. But who's? I wake up. I'm getting more tired by the minute. No one is here but my dad and Morgan. I fall asleep again... But it doesn't feel right.
