The rain fell in relentless sheets, drenching the night with a sorrowful symphony. Ocean, only six years old, clung tightly to her mother's neck, her small frame shivering not just from the cold, but from the weight of the situation. Her long black hair, now plastered to her face, mingled with the rivulets of water streaming down her mother's cheeks. Jade Bloodborne, a figure of strength and mystery, was now reduced to desperate sobs, her grip on Ocean unyielding despite the slickness of the rain.
Behind Jade trailed three other little girls, all identical in appearance to Ocean but for their eyes. Lumina Luna, her red eyes wide with a mixture of fear and determination, clutched her mother's robes, her voice a steady chant. "Mum, Ocean's tail is exposed," she kept repeating, her words a lifeline in the chaos. Flare Hestia and Faye Rhiannon, the remaining two quadruplets, tried their best to shield Ocean's shimmering black tail, with its distinctive teal accents, from view. Their tiny hands, though brave, were no match for the intensity of the downpour.
"We're almost there," Jade reassured them, her voice breaking with the strain of maintaining calm. The familiar outline of the Burrow, warm and inviting even in the storm, loomed closer. It was a sanctuary, a place where secrets were safe, and where the bond of friendship ran deep.
As they reached the doorstep, Molly Weasley, her face etched with concern, flung open the door. The warm glow from inside spilled out, casting a golden halo around Jade and her daughters. "Come in, quickly," Molly urged, her heart aching at the sight of her old friend and the bedraggled children.
Jade stumbled inside, carrying Ocean with a protective fierceness. The other three girls followed, their wet clothes clinging to them, making them appear even smaller and more vulnerable. Molly, ever the motherly figure, bustled around, fetching towels and blankets, her hands gentle yet efficient as she wrapped each child in warmth.
Jade, her composure finally crumbling, sank to her knees, still holding Ocean. Tears mingled with the rain on her cheeks as she looked up at Molly. "Please, take them in," she begged, her voice cracking. "Please, Molly, keep them safe."
Molly knelt beside her, placing a reassuring hand on Jade's shoulder. "You don't have to ask," she said softly, her eyes brimming with empathy. "They're as much a part of this family as my own."
Ocean, her tail now transformed back into legs under the warmth of the Burrow, looked up at her mother, tears streaming down her face. "Mum, don't go," she whimpered, the enormity of the situation crashing down on her young heart.
Jade hugged her tightly, kissing her forehead. "Be strong, my darling girls," she whispered, her voice filled with both love and anguish. "Keep our family secret safe. The Weasleys will protect you. I love you so much."
The room was filled with the soft cries of the quadruplets, their hearts breaking at the thought of being separated from their mother. But even at such a young age, they understood the gravity of their mother's plea. They nodded, their faces set with a determination beyond their years.
Jade rose slowly, her eyes lingering on her daughters one last time before she turned and walked out into the rain, the door closing behind her with a finality that echoed through the room.
Ocean woke up gasping, her heart pounding in her chest. The remnants of the dream, no—a memory—clung to her mind like a persistent fog. She was no longer six years old, but the emotions felt just as raw and real. The darkness of her room was a stark contrast to the vividness of her dream.
Beside her, Fred Weasley stirred, his hand reaching out instinctively to her. Their bond, forged since they were three years old, had only grown stronger with time. "Did you have the dream again?" he asked, his voice heavy with sleep but laced with concern.
