"Y/n are you almost ready?"

Your best friend and roommate Nana asked, standing in your doorframe. You just nodded, too focused on finding shoes to match your outfit.

"You look great! He's so gonna want you, and if he doesn't, I do."

She teased you while jokingly staring you up and down. You could only giggle as you told her to stop and kept searching for your shoes.

"I'm sorry, I'm almost ready. I just want to look my best, and I can't find my matching shoes." You sighed.

Despite your newfound confidence, you knew how many other beautiful girls fawned over him. You were starting to doubt yourself. Should you really be trying this hard? Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Was a guy really worth all this? You got a job to pay for a bunch of cute, but unnecessary clothes, considering your closet was already full. You bought more accessories and beauty products to always look your best. You'd gotten your hair colored and cut, hoping he'd notice despite not even really knowing him. On the days you knew he had class, you'd spend extra time getting ready, just in case you passed by him on the way. Even though on days you did take that extra time, he always had his head straight and unchanging as you walked by, his dark glasses always covering his eyes, never meeting your gaze.

"Relax, he may not even be there, you know!" Nana said reassuringly.

She had noticed how tense you were and knew she needed to calm your nerves. She walked towards you, fixing your necklace and grabbing shoes from your closet to match.

"Here, wear these, they match perfectly." She smiled as she handed you a pair of heels.

"Thank you, what would I do without you, Nana... and don't say be hopeless!"

You both laughed and headed out of your tiny shared apartment. You'd lived with Nana since freshman year, and she was not only your roommate but your best friend. She was always there for you with her calm and charming demeanor. She always knew what to say and just how to comfort you. You were grateful to have her as your friend; you weren't close with your family, so it was nice to know you had someone there for you.

-At the Party-

You walked in hoping to see that familiar white hair somewhere off in the crowd, but were quickly disappointed after scanning the entire room and seeing no sight of him. You'd met up with a couple of friends at the party, and while you had fun talking and laughing with them, you couldn't help but feel him in the back of your mind. You'd said under 20 words to him your entire time at college and felt desperate to change that. The more time passed, the more your anxiety built up, and you began to feel silly. You knew he rarely ever went to parties, so you weren't sure why you were so hopeful on seeing him tonight. After all, he was not too fond of all the attention he received, despite his popularity, he wasn't the most social, at least not when it came to big groups. He preferred to hang out with his friends and his teammates on the MMA team.

"I'm going to get some fresh air, guys. I'll be back soon." You told the group before walking off.

"You okay, Y/n? Do you want me to come with you?" Nana asked sweetly, furrowing her brow a bit with concern after noticing your disappointment.

"No, no, I'm okay. You can stay here. I'll be back shortly." You smiled, reassuring her.

You left the room with the party and decided to take the stairs instead of the elevator, as too many rowdy people were hanging out in the hallway surrounding it. You hummed quietly to yourself as you walked down the stairs, your heels clicking on the steps beneath you. You were too busy staring down at your new shoes to notice the man headed up the stairs until he was practically right in front of you; you both stood at the landing.
