Chapter 3 - What you don’t know
A little while later Silas and Avery sat down to eat their oven made pizza. “So what don’t I know?” she asked taking a bit of her pepperoni pizza.
“I’ll start from the beginning.” he said wiping his face with a napkin, Avery nodded her head. “Your mom was married before she meet your dad. She was happy, they lived in suburban Southern California with their two sons Kale and Kellan, her husband Cash was an accountant. He was killed one night in his office parking lot. Kellan was five at the time and Kale was fifteen, it devastated your mother because she really loved him. She wanted to make sure the boys were able to keep the lifestyle they’d become accustom too, so she started dealing…drugs.” he stopped for a second to let Avery process and ask whatever questions she might have had.
She looked at him surprised by what she was hearing, she never thought her mother was capable of doing anything like that, the stories she was told were a complete one-eighty from this one, “Eventually things started to get complicated, she got mixed in with the Mexican drug cartel but when she realized they were trafficking more than just drugs she tried to leave. They wouldn’t let her so she accidentally killed the leader. That got the Mexicans off her back, she started running. She left the suburbs of Southern California and made it to Illinois.”
“In Illinois she started dealing again, she meet this Czechoslovakian dealer he roped her into his organization. With the Czechs you never wanna mess with them they are hardcore compared to any other drug dealing race. While working with the Czechs she started ties with the Spanish, Italian, French. When she realized what she was doing was getting to dangerous she sent Kale and Kellan to live with their uncle in Washington. Again she tried to leave those groups but they wouldn’t let her, she escaped to New York where she meet your father. I take it this is where they started to tell you how they meet but G-Rated?”
“Yeah, when I would ask they would always say my mom was from Tennessee and she came to the city to be an actress but she meet my father instead. What happened after she got to New York?” she asked completely interested in the story, it was like being told a better version of Tom Sawyer, with her mother as the main character.
“Your father fell in love with her the second they laid eyes on each other. After they had been going out a while, Raleigh thought she could trust Todd enough to tell him the truth. So she did, she told him about the Mexicans, her sons and her dead husband, the Czechs, Spanish, French, and Italians. She told him that she still had very strong ties to the them because they wouldn’t let her go, she wanted to be free and live happily ever after again with her kids. So Todd tried to make deals with the cartels, he did but as collateral he used his company to make sure that they would stay away. And they did.” he said taking the plates with nothing but pizza crust and took them to the sink to be washed. Silas rubbed his face a couple of times before continuing the tale.
“The Spanish, Italians, and French were okay with the deals they made. But the Czechs weren’t satisfied so easily. They wanted blood, human blood and flesh, your blood and flesh. Your mom was pregnant with you at the times of the deals, for the record your parents had only been seeing each other for a month before all of this.” he said laying his hands down onto the granite counters pushing his shoulder blades together and making his shoulders rise. Avery still sat at the table nodding her head. She couldn’t speak, she wanted to but she couldn’t form the words and make them come out.
“Your mother had slept with the Czechoslovakian cartel leader before she meet your father. The Czech kingpin heard she was pregnant during the deals and believed it was his baby. So he wanted you and not whatever your father was offering. Todd didn’t care about the accusations he knew you were his child.” he said.
