Chapter 4 - Right or Wrong, What’s the Difference?

After the phone call with Shane Nehemiah, Avery and Silas both went to sleep. They had planned to take her company jet to Washington to see Kale and Kellan. And to tell them about Raleigh, she didn’t want to believe what Silas told her but she had to accept it and not hate her mother for it. She understood that everything Raleigh did was for her children’s safety and lifestyle. She didn’t want to believe the reality that she might not be her father’s daughter, it always felt like she belonged to him but did she biologically?

Screw Biology, she thought. She reasoned with herself that even if the Czech kingpin did help make her, her real father is the man that raised her and tucked her into bed every night, kissed her booboos whenever she got hurt, walked her to class on the first day of kindergarten. She rationalized that those are all the reasons plus more that made Todd Driftwood her dad.

She thought she had the perfect life behind open and closed doors, her parents loved her to the sun and back. She loved them just the same, but she’s a teenager so she always had her problems. Other families envied the Driftwoods, families that have never even meet them envied them.

“Son of a bitch!” she muttered looking at the clock next to the bed. Silas and Avery went to bed at eleven o’clock, they planned on getting up at five in the morning to get to Walla Walla, Washington before the afternoon. But since she couldn’t sleep she got up at three after staring the walls for four hours.

She got out of bed and walked around the house for a little bit before getting into the shower. She stood there naked under the water looking up at the shower head letting the water flow all over her face. Eventually she got tired of standing there so she backed up and sat on the floor of the shower letting the water pour all over her body. Avery couldn’t help but cry, she always cried in the shower because no one could hear her there.

After twenty minutes of sobbing in shower, she got out and dressed. When she went downstairs she saw Silas standing there completely dressed making breakfast. “When did you get up?” she asked pouring herself a cup of coffee.

“Same time as you. I could sleep but not for long, I spent a couple of hours staring at my ceiling before I actually got up and showered. I take it you haven’t been able to sleep either?” he said grabbing two plates and serving them both breakfast.

“Yeah you told me a lot last night. But I haven’t able to sleep long before then.” she said taking the plate from Silas and sitting at the counter eating it.

“I only told you an overview, the details are a lot worse.” he said putting the skillet and pan into the dishwasher. He went over and sat next to Avery at the counter and began to eat the breakfast he made. She laughed at him quietly, before finishing her breakfast.

After they ate and packed their bags, they got into Silas’s truck and headed for the airport. They got onto the private jet, the flight attendants were all still there so she kindly asked them all to leave. “Dan this is a secret flight, it does not go in the logs, understand?” she said saying the exact same things as she did yesterday.

“Yes Miss. Driftwood.” he said heading the pilots cockpit.

“Actually we don’t need you on this flight either. I can fly a plane, it’ll be fine.” Silas said patting the Pilot on the back. Avery looked at him for a second before gesturing Dan the pilot to leave. Dan left the plane with a smile.

“Crash my plane, and I hurt you, clear?” she said following Silas into in the pilot’s cockpit.

“Crystal clear. Or do you liked to be addressed as Miss. Driftwood? Yes Miss. Driftwood, right away Miss. Driftwood.” Silas said taunting her, he was laughing so she knew he was just kidding. She laughed along with him while he started to drive the jet off the runway.
