A blond boy sat on his bed, a brunette on the floor, head laid back against the blond's lap. The duo was Armin Arlert and Eren Jaeger. Armin brushed the other boy's hair back calmly with his fingers, knowing it would immediately go back into place afterwards, it was always naturally messy in its own way. But, it was cute on him. His hair was... fitting, to say the least. He was trying to get the brunette's nervousness to cease, because he was as shaky as ever, and he'd be surprised if Eren didn't start hyperventilating soon after, then he'd either get a nosebleed from overworking his nerves and his brain, or pass out. He couldn't help it, though. And, he had every right in the world to be nervous. The blond began, "Are you sure about this?"
"No..." Eren responded meekly.
"But you're still going to, aren't you, Eren?" Armin was met with silence for what felt like a short eternity, until Eren's lips parted, and he softly expelled his thoughts into soundwaves.
"I have to..."
"If you must, Eren..." Eren cut him off as he got up and made his way to the hallway. His destination was close, the room only at the end of the same hallway, much closer than the dungeon.
He moved his weighted feet, feeling even heavier with each step he took. He stood at the door.
"Captain," he started, but froze when he saw Hange leaning against Levi and drunkenly giggling her head off. He would wait for her to finish, it was impolite to interrupt.
"Hange it was a joke..." Levi looked rather annoyed, but Eren didn't notice. A storm was busy welling in his mind, blurring his vision of real life too much to see anything. He was terrified. He couldn't do it. He was too much of a coward. He felt his heart bubble up in his chest and drift up to his throat, he was choking on his own tongue. Butterflies came up in his stomach. His captain wouldn't care at all about him anymore if he told. He didn't like boys, obviously.
What if he's already with someone?
He whimpered at the thought of it, without meaning to, weakly covering his mouth with the back of his hand. He was too dazed out with paranoia to realize Hange was looking at him, not Levi, and with the utmost concern. Levi turned his head to the door once he noticed Hange had stopped laughing, and saw Eren, who was clearly not okay.
"Eren? Are you, uh, alright...?" He spoke calmly, seeing that Eren was in such a state. Of course, it couldn't be helped with how he was only a kid and dealing with such horrible things, all happening so quickly. But the boy still forced a smile on. It wasn't hard to tell it was fake, in fact, it was easy.
"Yeah, 'm great..." He was trying to fake a cheerful voice as best he could. He backed out of the door as he saw Levi getting up out of his chair.
"You're a terrible liar, now what's wrong?" He reached a hand out to put on the brunette's shoulder, but he flinched away and took another few steps back, overrun with panic. Why couldn't he just talk? Why couldn't he move? Why was he such a coward? Why couldn't he face his problems, and why was he so emotional at the worst possible times? Levi got closer to him one more time, but it didn't matter, Eren kept backing away, until his back hit the wall and he could back up no longer. So, he did the most Eren thing on Earth. He slipped past Levi due to his lean figure and got up the stairs.
Why was he like this?
"God, Eren come back here."
"No, no, I'm great, I... yeah, I'm fine. I'm fine. I am... fine. I'm fine."
"I don't believe that." Levi picked up his pace, following Eren intently. It felt like some sort of irony, following Eren around, wanting him to let him in. Maybe it was from the fact that, that was his reality as of late. Eren ran past Mikasa, who stopped dead in her tracks upon seeing Levi chasing her brother. It was a cramped hallway, and Eren nearly tripped over every few floorboards. Levi huffed and managed to jump over her, because obviously, that was definitely his only option. Yeah, no, he couldn't have just shifted to the side. Of course not. He was after Eren, and subconsciously he was telling his moody older sister that nothing would get his way.
Eren looked back to see Levi had gotten past Mikasa and when he turned back around, he was face to face with a wall. He slammed up against it, a loud crash ensuing as he collided with it and huffed out his pain. It sounded like he just got punched in the gut, and he didn't appreciate Levi catching up to him because of it. He scattered to get himself back up, a bit of a run in the crawl and he managed to push himself up to scurry away. "No no no no no no..." he kept tripping over his own feet, but managed to round a corner and get some distance between them, since Levi had to skid a bit since he was faster. Eren's demise, a dead end was approaching. But he saw an open window. He could squeezes through it. His long legs and slender frame allowed him to believe that he could, so built up a little more speed, and jumped through, only for his face to be met with grass and he, the fact that he wasn't done tumbling yet. He flipped forward a few times more, just as he had on a rooftop during his trainee years, when he'd lost his leg. He landed on his hipbone with a big huff. He was exhausted, and couldn't move any more. Levi sighed loudly, skidding again to a stop and looking out the window. He was glad they were on the first floor of the large building, he wasn't glad Eren had just actually bounded out of a window instead of telling him what was wrong.
Was he really that bad?
He climbed out the window and went to Eren's side, kneeling down and pressing his knee against the brunette's back.
"You have some explaining to do, Eren."
A/n: I'm not sorry I took this story down. It desperately needed to be rewritten. The story I made more than two years ago was simply not literature. It had no sense to it. This, I feel, is far better than the original, and I hope you will continue to read this now that Eren isn't literally trying to kill himself.
