As the clock struck midnight, the office was deserted and dark. A single light dimly illuminated the room from one lonely corner. Inside the office, a young man worked on his laptop. He was so focused on what he was doing that he did not hear the echo of footsteps.
Unbeknownst to him, his friends had planned a special surprise for him. As the clock struck midnight, they gathered around him with cheerful screams. He turned around surprised to see the room filled with his closest friends. A beautifully young woman was holding a neatly decorated birthday cake..
The young man's eyes widened with astonishment as the room erupted in joy and celebration, Happy birthday song filled the air. The young woman snaked her arms around his neck and leaned into his embrace "Happy Birthday Samrat" Her voice was filled with love.
Sam pulled back and looked at the cake. He shut his eyes trying to control his emotions.
"Kya hua Samrat??" The woman held his hand gently.
"Take it away Chavi, I have nothing to celebrate!" His voice was filled with exhaustion.
"Samr...."
"This is one day I wish forget forever Avi! Please take everything away! THERE IS NOTHING TO CLEBRATE"
He walked away without a backward glance. Chavi looked at the cake in regret! would her Samrat ever celebrate again?????
In a temple a middle aged couple were donating food and clothing to the needy, with a teenager in toe. A huge crowd gathered around them, offering them blessings for their kindness. An old man took the offering and blessed the couple whole heartedly.
"Har saal aajke din aaplog daan karte ho, koi khas baat hai babu??" He asked politely.
The elderly looking man looked up and smiled sadly "Aaj mere bade beta ka janamdin hai"
The woman's eyes filled with instant tears. She rushed out from there. The teenager chased behind her. He saw her sitting in a corner and crying. He couched before her and pulled her into his arms.
"Rote nehi mumma! Aaj kitne khushi ka din hai, Bhaiya ka birthday hai. We should be celebrating"
The lady looked up with tear filled eyes "das saal ho gaye use dekhe hue Sam.... Ankhe taras gaye hai mere..... har saal dua karte hoon ke agle saal mera baccha mere saath manaye apna janamdin, lekin woh din kabhi ata he nehi.... shayad woh din kabhi nehi ayega"
"kiase bate kar rahe ho mumma" Samir gasped "woh din zaruar ayega. Agle saal bhaiya apna birthday humhare saath manayege. Lekh ke rakh lo aap"
Lilly caressed his face gently. He reminded her so much of the son that she had lost....
Samir held her hand and kissed it gently "aapne mere zindigi khushiyo se bhar de hai mumma. In khushiyo pe bhaiya ka bhi utna he haq hai! Agle janamdin bhaiya humare saath manayenge! Yeh ek bhai ka nehi ek beta ka wachan hai!"
He gently wiped her eyes and helped her stand. She blinked off her tears not wishing to upset him further. She was slowly loosing hope. Samir saw the resignation in her eyes and was filled with determination. His mother would get her son back. Their family would be reunited!
