My first day in american high school!
I woke up feeling surprisingly refreshed and did my morning routine. Brush my teeth, wash my face with freezing water, do my skincare, put on some make-up, get dressed and sometimes I even have time to eat breakfast.
I put on Levi's oversized beige pants, a dark blue hoodie and my old Vans shoes.
I went downstairs and found my uncle sitting at the table while scrolling on his pone.
"Hi Heartly! How'd you sleep?" He asked
"Good, good"
Chris sighed "So umm.. I have to get to work soon so I can't drive you to school today but there's a bus in 10 minutes. Could you please take it?"
"Yes, of course! Don't worry bout me, really."
"Yea, yea. There's cereal in the left drawer. Want some?"
"Nah, I'm good. Not hungry in the morning, ya know?"
"Yea, I get it"
The bus arrived exactly when supposed to. I got in and started looking for a free seat. There was one next to an old lady taking most of the second seat, other two were next to middle aged white men and I'd rather stand than sit next to them.
I was about to go back but a guy looking my age had an empty seat by the window. He was sitting next to the aisle looking at his phone.
"May I?"I ask nodding at the free seat.
He looked at me and sighed. "I guess".
I waited for him to move to the window seat but he just looked at his phone again.
"Are you gonna move or..?" I asked confused.
"Why would I?" He didn't even take his eyes off his phone.
"You know. Usually in situations like this the person sitting in the aisle seat moves next to the window". I was getting frustrated.
"Not feeling like it, sorry. There's some empty seats at the front, feel free to sit there". Ain't no way I'm sitting there.
"Nah, not feeling like it" I said, mocking him. "I'll just sit here, I guess." I threw my shoulder bag over him, which has finally made him look at me. He studied my face and did not move.
After really long five seconds he snapped back into reality. Thats when I started trying to squeeze to the other side.
Turns out it wasn't that hard, although about 5 people were looking at me as if something bad was about to happen.
"It'd be easier if you just moved your ass from that seat" I said.
"You seem perfectly fine to me" he answered.
There was a long silence where i just stared out the window.
"What's your name?" I asked spontaneously.
He ignored my question. "Not that talkative I see" I muttered to which he gave me a quick glance.
There was another long silence. It wasn't awkward honestly. I took out my AirPods and opened Spotify. "Stop giving me advice" by Lyrical Lemonade started playing.
This man gave me another glance. He looked at my phone and at my face, then at his phone again.
"Tristen" I heard him say.
"Huh?" I looked at him confused.
"You heard me" he said, looking at me.
That's sort of when I realized, he was kind of good looking. Curly, dark brown hair, tall, well dressed. AND he smelled nice. Okay that is totally my type, sorry.
"You get off at Ruby Lane?" I asked, while taking one AirPod out.
"You new here?" He asked, ignoring my question. I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Why don't you answer my question first?" I was again getting frustrated. He turned his head to the opposite side. He looked back at me after a second.
"You still didn't tell me your name." What?
"You didn't ask." Because he didn't... right?
"Yes, I did"
"No, you didn't"
"Fine, I didn't" I smiled.
"Maybe I'd tell you if you were nicer." I said before putting my AirPod back in.
I spent another ten minutes in this bus listening to music and looking out the window. I got off at Ruby Lane and headed towards school. So did Tristen.
