unicorn academy, unicorn island

- ESMERAY WINTER HAD JUST GOTTEN OFF OF HER BOAT. The huge castle-like building stretching high up into the sky. A girl with brown hair bumped into her, sending her stumbling a few steps.

"Watch it!" she snapped. The girl turned around and mouthed a quick 'sorry' before hurrying after the dwerpin carrying her luggage. "Go to Unicorn Academy, he said, make friends, he said,'' She told herself under her breath.

~~~
Esmeray stood at the bottom of the stairs towards the entrance to the school as other students older and new began to gather around. She wasn't exactly a student but she still went to all the classes.
"Oh, ow!" Esmeray turned and found the girl from earlier on the ground. Valentina, a legacy, was walking away when she heard the girl exclaim after falling over. It just so happened that she had tripped over the red-head's luggage, being carried by various dwerpins.
She watched as two other girls came to help her off the ground. One had black hair tied up into ponytails, and had a squeaky, overly happy voice. The other had long, silver-blonde hair and a sweet voice. They both helped her off the ground and introduced themselves, but Esmeray turned to walk after another girl; Daenyra.
She punched the girl's arm lightly. She turned around with a small frown on her face, until her brown eyes met green-gold ones. A wide smile spread across her face. "Mera!"
"Hey, Nyra."
"I didn't know you were coming this year,"
"Trust me, I didn't know either," as they continued to walk towards the main courtyard, Esmeray mumbled something under her breath. "I didn't entirely want to either, not like I had a choice..."
"I wonder why Ms Primrose asked you to come this year,"
"No idea, she just said it was important,"
"She's probably going to announce you like she does every year you're here."
"Wonderful." They stopped in the courtyard as other students gathered, mostly freshmen, but a few from the previous years.. The main doors to the academy opened slowly. Esmeray could see the teachers on their unicorns as they came through the doors and onto the platform of the short flight of steps leading to the academy's main door.
Bells chime through the air as the energy of excitement radiated from others around her. Esmeray had the ability to not only read auras but physically see the colored mists surrounding each person, as she looked around shades of blue, green, red, pink, yellow and many more colors filled Esmeray's sightline as the mists swirling and bounced around each student in the courtyard.
The students in the courtyard gasped as the doors opened all the way revealing the teachers' unicorns with their sparkling horns, shiny manes and glittery markings on their sides, representing the type of power they had.
"Those are...unicorns," the brown-haired girl from earlier breathed out. Even though Esmeray had seen the unicorns of the island more times than she could remember, it always amazed her to see them each time she came. "Real unicorns?"
Ms. Primrose's unicorn snorted as she began to speak. "Welcome all, to Unicorn Academy." The gold and white unicorn neighs as the head teacher spread her left arm wide gesturing to the school behind her.
"Pinch me!" the cheery girl from earlier that had helped the brown-haired one exclaimed. Ms. Primrose huffed slightly.
"Hmm. It should look a bit more festive on such an important day, don't you agree, Ethera?" she said, leaning forward to stroke the unicorn's mane gently. The gold unicorn snorted and neighed as her horn began to glow. She tilted her head skywards and shimmering gold, purple and white banners appeared, decorating the school.
"Whoa!" the freshmen around Esmeray gasped as the gold glitter faded. She crossed her arms over her chest as she huffed, she'd seen it all before, and it did amaze her, but she tried not to show it.
"That's more like it," Ms. Primrose declared. "I'm Ms. Primrose, head teacher at Unicorn Academy. And this...is Unicorn Island, all the world's magic comes from here."
Except for mine. Esmeray thought proudly. While the rest of the world's magic came form the island, Esmeray's came from her family's royal bloodline.
"And unicorn's are its protectors, the only creatures mighty enough to keep the island safe from danger. You have all been invited to join a long history of unicorn riders."
"Huh. Definitely not the kind of riding academy I expected." the brown-haired girl behind Esmeray admitted.
"Some of you have been chosen for your extraordinary skills and talents. Others follow in the footsteps of a family member who was a unicorn rider before you." At that Nyra and Valentina beside them crossed their arms and smirked. "Some of you for both," now it was Esmeray's turn to take pride in the moment. And she did. "All of you have the potential to bond with a unicorn. But before you hurry off inside, we have a special announcement. I am pleased to announce that we have a very special guest at the academy this year, Princess Esmeray Winter of the Western Forest Elves, Heiress to the Angel Moon Throne, Regina of the Glass Seas, the very first to have founded Unicorn Academy and descendant of the first angels."
Some of the students gasped, wondering where she was when Nyra lightly hit Esmeray's arm. The heiress rolled her eyes and mouthed a quick 'fine' before disappearing and reappearing next to the teacher to Ms Primrose's right, now dressed in white pants, black and gold boots, a black and gold army jacket, and a black and gold cape hanging off her shoulder attached to the jacket with a golden shoulder epaulet.
Gold chains hung from the epaulet on her right shoulder, hanging down and clipped onto the other side of her army jacket. Black gloves covered her hands, various necklaces hung from her neck, resting on her collarbone. An overly-dramatic golden crown studded with black jewels rested on her head. It wasn't the crown she had wanted to wear but her parents insisted she wore it for the presentation.
The students gasped more than before whispering and murmuring among themselves. As Esmeray looked into the small crowd of freshmen students, she spotted the girl from earlier, her jaw hanging open as she stared at the girl she had bumped into before.
Ms. Primrose chuckled slightly as the whispers and murmuring continued on. "Now, get settled. Your journey begins tomorrow." Everyone quieted as the head teacher drew her welcoming speech to a close. Ethera reared up on her back hooves and when she stomped back down again, beams of fireworks shot towards the open air bursting open in colors of blue, gold, pink and green.
"Wow!" one of the students exclaimed.
"Yay!" said another.
"Can you believe it?" a third cheered.
