PETER PARKER HAD BEEN ABOUT to go to sleep when his phone vibrated. He froze, eyes widening: his phone hadn't vibrated with a text message for three months.

He leapt over his bed for his phone, ignoring the howl of his stomach as he picked it up, recognizing the number as the one he'd randomly messaged earlier.

Hello, Peter Parker

How did the world forget about you?

Peter's heart raced and he shut his eyes. His phone vibrated again.

Peter's breath hitched, and he suddenly remembered meeting Mr. Stark for the first time. Mr. Stark had appeared in his apartment one day after school, saying that he knew that Peter was Spider-Man. But he hadn't called Peter 'Spider-Man'...no, Mr. Stark had called him 'Spiderling'

Peter's fingers stalled and he swallowed, wondering if he should really say (or text).

Who cares? he thought. It's true, and what's this guy gonna do, anyway? Tell Mr. Stark?

Peter let out a sigh and flopped back onto his bed, telling Karen to shut down his phone. He had programmed Karen to inhabit his devices, kind of like Siri in Apple devices.

Karen responded with a "Good night, Peter," and shut off his phone, letting Peter close his eyes and succumb to sleep.

"HEY, MR. DELMAR," Peter said as he threw on an apron. He set his backpack on the floor behind the counter and pulled gloves over his hands.

"Hey, Peter," Mr. Delmar greeted, fixing up a sandwich. "Here you go," he added to the lady behind the counter, who smiled. Once the lady left, Mr. Delmar turned to look at Peter, and suddenly frowned.
