The summer of 1989, Kevin Spacey was eight years old. His father died three months before, and his mother left, so he lived with his widow aunt. His neighborhood was a strait road and right across his house was a small playground. Taking a left from his house was a storage facility, about two or three miles down. It was a two-way road, and in between lanes were stretches of grass and an occasional small pine or oak. As he was unloading all of his possessions in his new room, it started to get dark out. He kept unloading, because he could never sleep if there was any light, brave kid.
Of course he couldn't sleep, basically being an orphan, but Brownie helped a lot, a new chocolate lab pup the aunt got him.
Since sleep was impossible he decided to look out his window. He instantly saw a little girl, standing under the road lights, looking right at him. He froze in terror and eventually ran under the covers of his new bed, shut his eyes and didn't open them till the next morning.
He cautiously went down stairs that morning to French toast. After lunch, he went outside to try and find the girl in the play ground, he had no luck. That night he slowly looked out his window and found the girl there again. He crawled out the window and met her. "I'm Sophie, I live two houses down." She pointed to her left. Kevin replied, "Why have you been watching me?" She replied, "My daddy is a policeman. He works at night so I like sneaking out. Wanna walk around?" "Sure."
Four days went by, every night Kevin visiting her house and they would walk together all night. At the end of the fourth, she said she was going on vacation. Of course, Kevin went the night after anyway.
