I lived with my step mom, after my mum died my dad married his second wife she is very nice but then he died, I and my step mom tried to survive she was pregnant at that time so I tried my best to assist her in whatever she needed, she loved me and I loved her too.
I would have to work for people for us to survive, I literally was the bread winner if my family. One evening after dinner, she called me, "Eve", the short form for Evelyn, "I thank God for a daughter like you, but you know we can't stay here we will be kicked out in one month time", we couldn't afford to pay rent so we were being kicked out daddy brothers took all his belongings because I was a girl even though mum was pregnant, we tried to do all we could to get money but what do you get nothing, "so I want you to be strong, I know it's hard on you but you are our only hope, I will be dressing mummy Grace's hair tomorrow", that was our neighbour, "so I think there will be food tomorrow but I need you to do better I beg you", mum with hope or less hope in her eyes, "don't worry Mr Paul promised me a lot of money today, he his giving me tomorrow, sooo there is hope", mum smiled as I said that it gave her hope but her smile changed immediately and she asked, "who is Mr Paul?", she asked with a lot of fury in her face, I was so afraid, but for what I asked myself and I replied, "he is a friend, I met him when I was selling my orange and he offered to pay my school fees and he also said he will love to meet you but I wasn't sure if you would love to meet him", she smiled again and her face changed again, "why won't I like to meet him?", she asked again in anger, "mum calm down I just thought you wouldn't like him", "I wouldn't like him?", she asked herself, and turned to me, "does he like you", I looked disgusted and irritated, "Nooooo!", I screamed, I was almost an adult thats why mum said that, "he is quite elderly mum and he is married with kids, I have met them and he has I son, a cut....", I paused and kept quiet even though mum knew what I wanted to say, "you know we don't need that right now you don't need that right now", I looked at mum surprised and confused, "we need it", I said, "he will help us", "not Mr Paul you know what I mean", "what mum?", I acted like I didn't understand but I did.
