"How was the party last night?" Lexi asked, stretching out on the large bed and curled up with a pillow.
"It was interesting," David smirked as he packed his suitcase.
"Interesting, huh?" Lexi raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Do tell."
"Well, let's just say that Richie and I had a pretty deep conversation," David chuckled, placing his folded up shorts in his case.
Lexi smiled and bit her bottom lip. "How deep?"
"Very," David replied simply. "Deep."
"And the sex?"
David's eyes widened, mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. "How...How'd you know about that?"
"Richie asked me beforehand," Lexi said. "I know our sex life has kinda lulled for the past three months. I figured what's one night."
David's face turned a slight shade of red, surprised by Lexi's bluntness. He walked over to the bed and sat down next to her, taking her hand in his. "Well, it was good. It's been a while since Richie and I had a moment like that. It felt like old times, you know?"
His words trailed off as he looked into Lexi's eyes, searching for any sign of jealousy or hurt. But all he saw was understanding and love. He leaned in and gave her a gentle kiss on the lips, thankful for her support.
"I'm glad you had a good time." Lexi returned the kiss with equal tenderness, her hand reaching up to caress his cheek. "I want you to be happy, baby. And if that means reconnecting with Richie, then I'm all for it."
David smiled, feeling a weight lifted off his shoulders. "Thank you, beautiful. I love you."
"I love you too, David." Lexi grinned and pressed her lips together. She paused for a moment before speaking again, her voice soft and hesitant. "Just remember, it's important to be here with me and our baby. Your family should always come first."
"I will, baby. I'll never forget that." He paused, gazing into her eyes. "And speaking of being here...I'll finish the nursery once I'm back from Chicago and the wedding's over."
"Thank you," she said, her voice soft and sincere. "I appreciate that. And I'll make sure to have everything ready for you when you get back." She leaned in and placed a kiss on his cheek. "Now finish packing so you're ready when the car gets here."
David smiled and kissed her back before standing up and finishing packing his suitcase. As he zipped it up for the last time, he glanced at the clock and realized he was running late.
"I'll see you soon," he said, giving her a quick kiss on the lips before heading out the door.
The cool morning air brushed against his face as David stepped out of the house, closing the door behind him. He took a deep breath, feeling anticipation bubbling up inside him. He was excited to see Richie again but also anxious about Jon being around.
"Morning, boss," the driver greeted him and popped the trunk open.
"Morning, Mike," David replied. Mike loaded the luggage into the car while David climbed in and settled into the plush seat.
As he made his way towards the car, he couldn't help but reminisce about the past. The memories of him and Richie together were bittersweet, tinged with regret and longing. He wished things could have been different, that they could have found a way to make it work.
The car pulled away from the curb, leaving the quiet countryside behind as David's thoughts drifted back to the conversation he'd had with Lexi. He was grateful for her understanding and support, knowing that she would always be there for him, no matter what.
