Chapter Three

Synopsis of Chapter Three: Night beach activities with Asra and Julian

The night dragged on, it was late, and everyone was beginning to head home. Asra and I joined arms as we began to head back towards our shop. Julian offered to walk with us. Asra teased him about not being able to be alone but, Julian made the argument that we were headed in the same direction, so it would be useless if we left at different times. I got the feeling that he just wanted to talk more. I'm not sure why but, it felt like the right feeling. When we left, the sun was already set, and the stars were barely visible in the navy sky.

"Asra?" Julian started.

"Yes?" Asra answered with a twinge of slyness. That was the voice he used when he was going to play a trick or rather when he was going to twist something to his advantage.

"Do you think we could show River the beach? Have a nice walk?" Julian said softly, smiling a bit.

"Well, I don't think that would hurt." Asra smiled, squeezing my hand excitedly. I scrunched my brows, looking from Julian to Asra. They smiled, laughing at each other as we walked. The city lights were bright and the streets were pretty crowded for a random Thursday night. The closer we got to the beach, the stronger the smell of salt and sand. The louder the waves echoed in my ears. I began to grow impatient but, we got to our respective apartments first.

"Let's go set all of our shopping bags down and meet back in front of our buildings in..about ten minutes?" Asra said, noting my antsy tapping. He smiled at me and shook his head. Julian also noted my antsy tapping.

"I can meet you in five," Julian said, nodding to me with a smirk and running across the street to his building. I nodded to Asra and raced to the apartment, running up the stairs as he followed behind me. I laughed, setting the bags down gently on the couch as I ran to my room, going through unnecessary amounts of clothing to find something suitable for the beach.

"So, thoughts on everyone?" Asra called from his room.

"They're very kind!" I replied, finding part of the bathing suit I was looking for and a lilac sheer top that Asra had given me.

"Thoughts on Julian?" he called again.

"He's nice, scared me a bit but, he's very nice!" I responded, grabbing the matching swim trunks to go with the top. I pulled everything on quickly, I was determined to get to the beach. I hadn't been to the beach since I was little so, I had been more than excited since Asra had mentioned it. I slid on a pair of flip-flops and grabbed a tote bag. I popped a few things in the bag such as a towel or two, some clothes to change into if we were to get wet and a few Ziplock bags for collecting seashells. I sped to the balcony, looking for any sign that Julian was outside yet. I knew Asra would wait on him, as much as I didn't want to. I was getting more impatient. I jumped up and down, starting to pace as I waited. Asra emerged from his room, wearing dark purple swim trunks and a matching sheer lilac shirt. He wore dark sandals and also sported a tote bag. I looked at him with a pitiful look. I knew i looked pitiful but i was eager. Asra chuckled at me, rolling his eyes and nodding for me to join him. I had almost forgotten how toned he was. He had tan skin, a stunning shade of brown-gold. He turned towards the door, allowing me to see the small tattoo of the moon phases lining his spine between his shoulder blades. Asra waited for me down the stairs, smiling at me. His violet eyes shimmered in the fluorescents, showing off shades of violet, lilac and pink. Asra ran a hand through his fluffy white hair, fixing it to where it could stay out of his face.

"Looks like Julian's ready too." Asra said, pointing to Julian across the street. He was on his phone but, he was wearing black and red swim trunks with a matching black and red hoodie. He wore red crocs and held a red and white towel in his arm. He waited for us to join him, smiling at the sight of Asra and myself.
