Where to go next, Isabel Potter knew not. Of course she had her options: where Harry lived, any possible location that an alive Peter could be, some random woods, or one of his old homes. She knew that he could be looking for her too, the only problem, she couldn't just post her location in the daily profit, she had to remain hidden.
So what could his first order of business be? She doubted he could buy a house whilst being so hunted. He could have just gone abroad the minute he escaped. Traversed to Africa to lead a normal life. But she didn't think he had just escaped to hide. No, Sirius Black had a mission. Wheather his mition be for the revival of Voldemort, or revenge on Peter Pettigrew, she did not know.
If he escaped to revive Voldemort, than he would probably travel to voldemorts last known location, or locations he had mentioned, or been to in the past. If Sirius Black truely was Voldemorts most faithfull servant, than he would have more of a knowledge of Voldemorts past than others. Isabel knew, like most, verry little of Voldemorts past, but she had picked up on several key details from Dumbledore and past death eater related cases
For starters, she knew that Voldemort had grown up in a muggle orphanage, had been a decendant of Slytherin threw the Gaunt line, and his true name was Tom Marvolo Riddle. Beyond this, she didn't know much. She assumed that the narccisitic Voldemort would never return near a simplistic muggle orphanage to hide, nor would he want to hide in a nongrandeous location. No, Voldemort would want an ancient, history filled magnificent, resting place to await his death eaters to come for him. Perhaps he had once mentioned a place like this to his death eaters in the past.
If Sirius, like she believed, was innocent, then he would be hunting down Peter, whilst attempting to rekindle the truth with his non passed friends. Something would have prevocated his want to escape by information of Peter reaching him. This would have lead him to the need to escape. Perhaps to save someone from him. Yes! That was it. Sirius would have realized that Peter was in a position to hurt Harry or someone, and escaped to secure that Peter hurt no more of the people he cared for. Or some signal or information, had reached Black in Azkaban over the whereabouts of his old master and had escaped to find him.
"Yes, yes!" she muttered to herself, slidding into a bar seat, pulling out the files to look through.
She searched throughthe files, hoping to see one labled Azkaban activity or something of the likes. She found it, smacking the middle of the rest. Pulling it out, she read,
-muttering in his sleep, "He's at Hogwarts. He's at Hogwarts." From Ministers yearly visit in early August, to time of breakout.
He could mean many people; Voldemort, Harry, Peter, Remus, an old family member, an old death eater friend and more. But at Hogwarts, that's a location, that's a goal, that's where he'll be off to. Then the time frame, it could be no coincident of the minister being there that would have brought it on. It was something the Minister spoke about or brought in that gave Sirius a drive to escape. She would need all the information on the last check to come up with a conclusion, what the Minister said, what he brought in, if they had any interactions.
She searched through the files hoping for an account and found none. She would send owl to Alastor for information on the case with her questions once she found a place to hide.
Her eyes slid down to the next dash.
-seemingly unfazed by the dementors in a way. While other prisoners quake with fear and scream, Black appears bored on first glance at certain times. Other times screaming over betrayal, his past murder (Peter Pettigrew), and Hogwarts friends.
Boredom. What could make a person in Azkaban, when the dementors circling them force them to relive their worst memories, be bored? Perhaps he had no bad memories. But that was impossible. If he was guilty, the memories of his old house and mother would be sure to be horrid. Sirius had been tortured by his own mother for years. That certaintly isn't a cheery memory. What she knew of Voldemorts followers is that they were forced to watch horrid things, so he couldn't not have any bad memories. If he was innocent, she knew from Hagrid, that he had visited James and Lilys house after their death. That would be a scaring image for him to relive too. There went that idea.
Now, what else could make a prisoner refrain from being tormented? He could be mad, but that didn't seem like a good enough reason. He could be to powerful. Though that would be exhausting over time, and though he was powerful, not enough for that.
Dementors feed off of happy thoughts. So if he had none, would they not feed off of him? That seemed reasoning enough. She would have to get an answer from someone more knowledgeable later.
The hours passed and she briefed the papers going through cup after cup of coffee. She read through his family history, a summary of his brother Regulus's disappearance, a collection of daily profit articles relating to him, a detailed description of the supposed night of Pettigrews death by several muggles, and a collection of random details Alastor had added for assistance. The shop was now closing and the young waitress was herding her out to the streets.
Deciding she ought to find a place to stay before dark, she wandered down the muggle street looking for an inn to stay at.
Stepping into a grimy pub that had open lodging she neared the bar where a young man was whipping glasses.
"Excuse me sir, but how much is it for a room for a night?" she said propping herself up by her elbow, blinking expectantly. She wasn't the best with money and tried to save when she could even if it ment flirting through an age difference. The girl was half Veela and if she wasn't going to use it to her advantage sometimes than she could call genetics useless.
"Twenty five per nigh' fer a room." he said not looking up from the glass he was whipping.
She took out her muggle money and put it out on the counter. He looked up, ogling for a moment, then awaking from his trance and handing her the keys.
"Up the stairs and fourth on your left."
She turned on her heel, and, with her blonde hair swishing behind her, turned up the stairs to set her bags down.
The room was decent to say the least. It wasn't unkempt or unclean, but at the same time was no real experience. The sheets were clean and white, as were the curtains, but the window looked out to a brick wall and the uneven floors had a slight layer of dust. Overall it was rather nice.
She knew she still had work to complete, and began on her letter to Alastor Moody.
Dear Alastor,
Read through the files you sent me with and they were great for a briefing on the case. Though I know this is difficult, I wondered if perhaps I could pop into the ministry to ask a couple of questions to the minister about his observations. Of course I could simply do this by owl, but I feel it would be more beneficial for us to speak in person. If not, no worries.
I also would like to arrange a time where I could speak with the workers, and investigate the horrid prison.
Sincerely
Isabel Potter
Next, she sent a letter to Madame maxims over her jobs hours. She took a couple swigs of some type of drink muggles used to get themselves drunk quick and drifted to her usual drowse.
