AUTHOR'S POV
Saira was sleeping peacefully at night, the clock striking eleven, when she felt the familiar warmth near her feet-the gentle pressure of strong hands massaging her sore legs. A deep sigh left her lips as she unconsciously relaxed, knowing exactly who it was.
Aariz.
It had become his unspoken ritual-slipping into her room when she was asleep, kneeling at her feet, soothing her aching muscles with tender care. He would sit there, lost in the rhythm of his touch, his gaze tracing every feature of her face as if memorizing them. Then, after he was done, he would lay beside her, never too close, never too far, and fall asleep, believing she was lost in slumber.
But what he didn't know was that she was awake. Every single night.
She knew.
She felt it-the way his touch lingered just a second too long, the way his breath hitched whenever she stirred in her sleep, the way his fingers would hesitantly tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear, only to retreat as if he had no right to.
Tonight was no different.
Aariz, his brows furrowed in focus, scrolled through his phone with one hand while his other hand continued to knead the knots in her calves, his touch so careful, so reverent. She kept her breathing even, her lashes fluttering slightly as she peeked through the smallest slit in her eyes.
How could she not admire him in return?
He looked so unguarded in these moments. Not the cold, distant man the world knew, but the one who cared in silence, who cared in actions rather than words.
After half an hour, his movements slowed, his fingers lingering at her ankle before he finally pulled away with a quiet sigh. He set his phone aside, stretched his limbs, and shifted beside her, propping himself up on his elbow. His sharp gaze softened as he studied her face, drinking in every detail like he was afraid she would disappear.
Her heart clenched.
She felt the warmth of his breath ghost over her face as he leaned in slightly, his fingers twitching as if resisting the urge to touch her. She could almost hear his thoughts-Does she even know what she does to me?
Minutes passed. His eyes grew heavy, his breath evened out, and slowly, he drifted into sleep.
Saira cautiously opened one eye first, ensuring he was truly asleep before her gaze fully met his face. His features were relaxed, stripped of the torment he usually carried. There was something so painfully beautiful about him like this-peaceful, vulnerable.
Her hand, as if moving on its own, reached up to his face. Her fingers trembled slightly as they cupped his cheek, her thumb grazing over the faint stubble there. A broken sigh left her lips, her eyes burning as she whispered in her mind, Why are you making things more complicated for me? If you keep clinging to me like this, it will be impossible for me to walk away.
A lone tear slipped down her temple, vanishing into her pillow.
I will forgive you for what you did, Aariz... but why don't you understand? We are not meant for each other...
