Mingyu
It's finally the weekend. I can't explain how excited I am. It's like I'm channeling Wonwoo and I haven't even made it to his house yet. My tail is much smaller than his and I can hide it with a bulky coat, which I have. Not that I'm embarrassed about my tail. It's just unusual for me to have the problem.
Before I park, Wonwoo is already at the door of his apartment, locking up. His smile lights up his entire face and I melt. That smile is all mine.
Wonwoo rushes down the stairs. I need to hold him, so I climb out of the truck and throw open my arms. He flies right in.
"Mingyu." He nuzzles me with his head and I breathe him in. Always, his scent makes me think of home and love. "I can't wait for our adventure. I don't think I've ever been to a lumber shop. And I drew up a few designs." This is when I realize he's carrying around a notebook. He flips it open and I suck in a breath. How could I forget he was a talented artist? "I know I went overboard on the details." Wonwoo frowns at the paper. "But I wanted to visualize it all." He flips to another page and another, all stunning designs he created. "Do you think any of these will work, or am I too much?"
"You're not too much. Promise."
Wonwoo nudges me with his shoulder. "I am sometimes. But the designs?"
"These are so good. But a few won't work because of how top-heavy they will be in relation to the float being pulled. We probably want to go with a simple design so we don't draw focus away from the dancers."
Wonwoo grins again. "Exactly what I was thinking too, which is why I designed this last one." He flips the page to reveal something so simple and elegant.
"Yes. Perfect."
"Thought so." Wonwoo gives a sharp nod and snaps the notebook closed. "Let's do this!" He runs to the passenger side of my truck and straps in. "I went to the grocery store yesterday and had a blast. I'm ready for more."
"Get anything fun?"
"So much fruit! And it wasn't scary at all. Then I went to my doctor's appointment. And they didn't really have much to say other than Fate decided to bless me with a heat," he sighs. "I don't get it, but whatever, because it brought you back into my life."
We can actually have a future.
Wonwoo chats about the winter ballet as I drive. They've been rehearsing for two months and next week is their opening night for a two-week showing.
"I've gone through so many pointe shoes this month!"
"Is that strange?"
Wonwoo chuckles as he shakes his head. "Not really. We're a professional company. We go through shoes quickly."
"I'd love to see you dance again." It's been so long. In high school, I used to drive him to ballet practice some days. Before our falling out.
"Oh! That reminds me. I got you a ticket for opening night. If you're free." Wonwoo pulls an envelope from his notebook and lies it on the bench between us. "I remembered how much you enjoyed watching me before. And Eric said you deserved it with all the work you're doing for him."
"He hired me to do the work."
"He enjoys giving bonuses," Wonwoo shrugs as he pushes the envelope closer. "I hope you come."
"I won't miss it for anything." I hadn't realized how much I wanted to see him perform again until now. The last time I'd witnessed him dance he was still a student, but now he's a professional making a living. How much stronger is he?
