I wrote this with my bestie BethEgan0 who is literally in love with all these people as much as me! ❤️

Beth's POV

"I'm going to take a gamble with this one, but I think the leader of Hungary during the Hungarian Uprising was Imre Nagy."

There was a tense silence in the studio as Ed gave his answer. James shuffled uncomfortably next to me and I wrapped an arm around him reassuringly.

You see, me, James, Ed and my best friend Evie were  competing against each other on Pointless, which according to Evie was a secret dream of hers for a long time. I can't exactly judge her - it's addicting to watch sometimes.

So there we were - me and James and Ed and Evie, versing each other as well as fellow comedians and friends of the boys, Greg Davies and Alex Horne.

We'd first knocked off the other duo in the running, Josh Widdecombe and his best friend and "mouth from the south", Rob Beckett. They'd struggled from the start and I think we all secretly knew they wouldn't last too long.

As for Greg and Alex, we'd at first been nervous as they were notoriously clever. However, Alex took a risk after Greg had given a pretty good answer worth forty six points. To put a long story short, that risk had not payed off whatsoever and it was pretty clear they were out of the running.

With those two as old news, me and James now had only one focus. To beat those two childish, smug rivals we liked to call our friends.

The aggravating tune I'd began to hate started playing as the light sank lower and lower down the screen. We all watched and I could feel a sense of dread radiating off of James. I could see out of the corner of my eye Ed and Evie's smiles getting wider and wider as the line inched further towards the bottom.

Then it happened. Pointless. I turned to see Ed and Evie wildly celebrating their correct answer. Oh Fuck! It all relied on me now. I looked to James for reassurance but he had nothing to give me. He was just as nervous as I was.

"So Beth, which of these questions do you like the look of?"  I racked my brain, thinking back to those awful GCSE history lessons, hoping something might help.

" The two leaders of the Spartacist uprising in 1919 - Karl Liebeknecht  and Rosa Luxemburg?" As my answer was repeated for everyone to hear, James looked at me, unsure. He'd never really been a history geek, that was Ed's thing.

That same old tune played again as the light began making its way down the screen. The deafening song rang louder and louder as the beams moved closer to the all important red line. I reached out for James's hand and he took it, squeezing it optimistically. It was comforting to know that he had my back.

Our hopes were realised - it passed the red line by a long shot and landed on six. It wasn't pointless but it was good enough for us. We had made it through to the head to head. We cheered, happy we were through and within an instant James had wrapped his arms around me.

Evie's POV

Ed and I rushed backstage hand in hand, still elated that we got through to the head to head. Beth and James hadn't arrived yet so we just sat and took the time to recalibrate.

"That was a great answer back there. I didn't know you knew that much about the Hungarian uprising."

"I don't. I was 3 when the Berlin Wall fell."

"But it's not like you didn't do GCSE history." He smiled at this, the tiniest blush forming across his cheeks. I desperately wanted to kiss him but we were quickly interrupted by James and Beth appearing seemingly from nowhere.
