Lizzie stood at the edge of the hallway, her heart pounding in her chest as she listened to the heated exchange between Will and Jay's team. Their voices were tense, their words filled with urgency and concern, and Lizzie couldn't help but feel a sense of dread wash over her as she pieced together fragments of their conversation.

As Will demanded answers about what had happened, Lizzie's mind raced with worry for Jay. She knew that he was involved in some kind of dangerous operation, but she had never imagined that it would end like this – with him fighting for his life in a hospital bed.

Unable to bear the uncertainty any longer, Lizzie stepped forward, her voice trembling slightly as she addressed the group. "Excuse me," she said, her tone hesitant yet determined. "I couldn't help but overhear... Is Jay here? Is he okay?"

The members of Jay's team turned to face her, their expressions somber as they took in her worried demeanor. Hailey Upton stepped forward, her gaze sympathetic as she met Lizzie's eyes.

"Jay's in the hospital," she confirmed softly. "He got caught in the crossfire during a bust gone wrong. We're still waiting to hear more about his condition."

A wave of relief washed over Lizzie at Hailey's words, but it was quickly replaced by a flood of concern for Jay's well-being. She knew that he was a strong and capable officer, but even he couldn't escape the dangers of the job unscathed.

"I need to see him," Lizzie said firmly, her voice filled with determination. "I need to make sure he's okay."

Hailey nodded in understanding, her expression sympathetic as she led Lizzie down the hallway toward the emergency room. As they walked, Lizzie's mind raced with worry for Jay, her thoughts consumed by images of him lying injured and vulnerable in a hospital bed.

But as they reached the entrance to the emergency room and Lizzie caught sight of Jay's pale and battered form lying unconscious on a gurney, her heart clenched with fear. She rushed to his side, her hands trembling as she reached out to touch his bruised and bandaged face.

"Jay," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. "Please, be okay."

As Lizzie stood by Jay's bedside, her heart ached with worry as she looked down at him. His face was pale, his features drawn with pain, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of helplessness wash over her.

"Please, Jay," she whispered, her voice barely above a breath. "You have to be okay. You can't leave me like this."

But Jay remained unconscious, his eyes closed and his breathing shallow. Lizzie reached out to take his hand in hers, squeezing it gently as she prayed for him to wake up.

As she sat there by his side, lost in her thoughts and fears, a voice broke through the silence behind her. It was Will, his expression filled with concern as he approached them.

"Lizzie," he said softly, his voice filled with empathy. "How is he?"

Lizzie turned to face Will, her eyes filled with tears as she struggled to find the words to express her worry for Jay. "He's not awake," she replied, her voice trembling with emotion. "I don't know what to do."

Will placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, offering her a reassuring smile. "We'll get through this," he said firmly. "Jay's a fighter. He'll pull through."

Lizzie nodded, grateful for Will's support in this moment of uncertainty. She knew that she couldn't face this alone, and having Will by her side gave her the strength she needed to keep going.

Together, they sat there in silence, keeping vigil over Jay as they waited for any sign of improvement. And as the hours passed and Jay's condition remained unchanged, Lizzie clung to the hope that he would soon wake up and return to her, safe and sound once more.

Reluctantly, Lizzie knew she couldn't stay by Jay's side indefinitely. Duty called, and she had to return to work at Chicago Med. With a heavy heart, she leaned over, pressing a gentle kiss to Jay's forehead before whispering, "I'll be back, Jay. You have to fight through this."

With one last lingering look, she turned away from his bedside, her footsteps heavy as she made her way out of the hospital room. Each step felt like a weight on her chest, the worry for Jay gnawing at her with every passing moment.

As she stepped out into the corridor, Lizzie took a deep breath, steeling herself for the tasks ahead. She couldn't let her concern for Jay distract her from her duties as a nurse. It was time to focus, to channel her energy into caring for her patients and doing what she could to make a difference.

But as she went about her rounds, her thoughts kept drifting back to Jay, her mind consumed with worry for his well-being. She found herself constantly checking her phone for updates, her heart skipping a beat each time she saw a message from one of Jay's teammates.

Despite her best efforts to stay focused, Lizzie's mind remained firmly fixed on Jay, her concern for him overshadowing everything else. She longed to be by his side, to hold his hand and reassure him that everything would be alright.

But for now, all she could do was wait and hope for good news. And as she went about her duties, she sent silent prayers up to the heavens, willing Jay to wake up and return to her, safe and sound once more.

As Lizzie went about her duties, her mind remained firmly fixated on Jay. She couldn't shake the worry that gnawed at her, nor the unsettling realization that her feelings for him might run deeper than mere friendship.

April noticed the change in Lizzie's demeanor and pulled her aside, concern etched on her face. "Hey, Lizzie, what's going on?" she asked gently, her voice filled with empathy.

Lizzie's eyes welled up with tears as she struggled to find the words to express the tumult of emotions swirling inside her. "It's Jay," she admitted, her voice wavering with emotion. "I can't stop thinking about him, April. I'm so worried about him."

April wrapped her arms around Lizzie, offering her a comforting embrace. "It's okay," she murmured, her voice soft and soothing. "You care about him, Lizzie. That's a good thing."

Lizzie nodded, her tears flowing freely now as she allowed herself to open up to April about her feelings for Jay. "But what if it's more than that?" she whispered, her voice barely above a whisper. "What if I... like him? As more than just a friend?"

April listened attentively, her expression filled with understanding as Lizzie poured out her heart. "It's okay to feel that way, Lizzie," she reassured her. "But only you can decide what to do with those feelings. Just take it one step at a time, and don't rush yourself."

Lizzie nodded, her heart heavy with uncertainty as she grappled with the realization that her feelings for Jay might be more complicated than she had initially thought. But as she leaned on April for support, she felt a glimmer of hope flicker within her – the hope that maybe, just maybe, there was a chance for something more between her and Jay. And with that thought in mind, she wiped away her tears and resolved to face whatever the future held with courage and determination.
