At 10:30 am, the weather at Odyssey University was atrocious. Thick, dense fog blanketed the campus, making it hard to see, while strong gusts of wind blew through the trees, causing them to sway and rustle. Meanwhile, Asher concluded his urban and design planning class and prepared to leave. He gathered his belongings and headed towards his next class, Drawing l: Fundamentals, which he shared with Valencia.
He noticed his friend, Darcy Angela Ashcroft, whom everyone called Angel, rushing over with excitement, waving her hands eagerly like a child meeting friends. Angel, a senior studying physics, was wearing a floral print midi skirt matched with a solid-colored blouse. She had layered it with a cardigan for warmth. To finish off her outfit, she wore loafers and carried a simple tote bag, ideal for carrying books and essentials. Angel and Asher's friendship began in high school. It all started when Angel confidently approached him while he was absorbed in a book she had her eye on in the school library.
"Baby girl, got any spare change?" She exclaimed, tapping his shoulder, causing him to squirm slightly.
"For what, hoe?" He replied, still feeling the sting.
"Hey, don't call me that! I just need to buy another Quantum Mechanics book." She explained, attempting to reach for his bag before he pulled it away.
"Girl, don't your parents give you an allowance?"
"Well, they do. Just lend me 300 bucks please, I'll pay you back next week." Angel replied, her tone a mixture of sweetness and mockery as she looked directly into his eyes with fake puppy dog eyes. When Asher was momentarily deceived by her fake expression, he sighed and opened his wallet, pulling out a 350-dollar bill. Angel's ecstatic reaction included a little victory dance and shrieks of gratitude.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" She exclaimed, taking the money eagerly before planting several quick pecks on Asher's cheek, leaving behind a trail of kiss marks.
"See you later, baby girl!" With one last playful kiss on his cheek, She skipped away, her steps swift and graceful, her radiant smile illuminating her face like the glow of a happy fairy, her flowing dress trailing behind her as if caught in an unseen breeze. Chuckling softly, Asher shook his head and entered the Drawing l: Fundamentals class, but he then accidentally stumbled into Valencia, both sharing a laugh.
"Oh, sorry... Oh, it's you!" Vallie said between giggles as Asher retrieved her book that had fallen when they collided.
"Yeah, it's me."
"You've got a little something on your face." She whispered, gesturing towards the trail of kiss marks adorning his cheek, prompting him to hastily shield his face with his large, veined hands, his cheeks flushing with embarrassment.
"Oh, shit! It's, uh, from a friend—a thank you for the money I gave her." He stammered, his palms growing clammy with embarrassment. Vallie swiftly retrieved wipes from her bag and handed them to him.
"Here, I'm sure this will help vanish that friend's kiss marks." She joked, her voice tinged with skepticism as she observed him scrubbing away the marks, a hint of doubt evident in her tone.
He disposed of the used wipes in a nearby trashcan, "Thank you." But before he could finish, Vallie's thumb wiped away the last remaining mark near his lips, causing him to react with wide eyes and a blush creeping up his cheeks, a mixture of surprise and embarrassment evident in his expression.
"Sorry, missed a spot, it's gone now!" She quickly withdrew her hand, noticing his sudden discomfort.
"Tha—thanks for the wipes..."
He struggled to meet her gaze, his eyes darting nervously before finally locking onto hers.
