I sat under the magnificent, old oak tree and tried to ignore the thoughts in the back of my mind. The wind blew slowly, as I realized that wearing five layers of clothing today was probably a horrible decision. I was steaming in my white dress and blue leggings, as I waited for my mysterious admirer to make a surprise appearance. I pulled out my compact, in an effort to fix my makeup, and saw Devon Marcus approaching the spot I had chosen to inhabit. Oh dear lord. I really hope it's not him. I nervously began packing up my things and tried to make it seem as mundane a task as possible.
Devon Marcus was a very bad person, for he had never shown any amount of human kindness to anyone. He was very attractive, for all intensive purposes, with his black hair and deep brown eyes. His lanky figure approached the spot where I was trying to make my escape, faster than I could achieve my goal. It's not that I didn't want him, but I had a feeling this was a cruel joke that was going to end in nothing except ice cream and tears later tonight. I stood, as he quickened his pace towards me in a desperate attempt to corner me.
"Hey! Wait up!" His voice made me physically cringe and I was not about to wait around to be humiliated. I tried to pretend I didn't hear him and I quickly slipped the last bit of writing supplies into my bag. "Hey. Please don't go yet." His eyes meet mine and they seemed to hold some desperate hope within them.
He stood too close to me, but I couldn't back away without him thinking I was leaving. My heart beat quickened and sweat began to form at the nape of my neck.
"Did you get my note?" His voice contained something uncharacteristic, for him at least, desperation.
"Yes." I took a smaller stance trying to make myself invisible. "I did. But I really hope you don't think you can just play my heart like that for some cruel joke. " I refused to be hurt this time.
"J-joke? What do you mean?" His voice cracked like he hadn't had a drink in days.
"Don't act like that. You know exactly what I mean." Tears started streaming down my face, but I couldn't stop them. "You're just like everyone else, and you're trying to play some silly trick on me. And as soon as you have me convinced we're really going on a date, your little friends will come out and be proud that they tricked the tranny." Not this time. "Well, I'm sick of it I have feelings just like a-anyone else." I was sobbing at this point. "It's- it's not a game."
"You think this is a joke?" I saw a deep, unrelenting pain withing his eyes.
"I-isnt that exactly what it is?" No one was around, so our scene was undisturbed.
"No. I promise." His voice was so firm, as he wiped away my tears. Then some of the senior boys walked into the courtyard with a horrific swagger.
"Hey, Dev!" The tallest boy called out. "What'cha doing with that tranny!?"Devon immediately pulled away.
"Just tellin' her to go back where she belongs." He paused. "The zoo!" The boys cackled with insane laughter, as I felt my heart break all over again. I shot Devon a look that combined all 22 years of disapointment into one. He looked sad, and mouthed the word sorry to me.
"Sorry is pointless." My voice broke. "If it's as hollow as your soul." His face showed grief for all of his actions, as I walked away trying to repair my broken soul...Chapter one end
