I sat at my desk and tried to come up with another paragraph for my psychology essay that was due tommorrow. I had already written three pages and I only needed one more paragraph to meet the correct word count. The house was completely silent which bothered me more than I would admit. Sam had been working late shifts for several days now and Malcom was out with some friends. I shifted uncomfortably in my chair and tried to force myself to concentrate. I glanced at the clock which read 8:30p.m., but it felt like 10p.m.
I got up from the chair and made my way into the kitchen to grab a glass of water. I filled the glass to the brim and placed the pitcher back into the fridge. I went to quickly grab the glass, but the condensation caused it to slip from my grip. The glass shattered on impact and water exploded over the kitchen floor. I stared at it for a moment.
"I'm so disapointed in you." I laughed at my own insanity, as I went to grab a broom. I cleaned up the mess and went back to working on my paper.

One hour later, I finally finished my paper and emailed it to my professor. I was mentally exhausted after working so long on it. I turned towards the door, as Samantha barged into the room coming home from work.
"Hey sweetie." I helped her set down some grocery bags. "I see you went shopping?" I peeked into one of the bags.
"Oh no you dont" She snatched the bag away. "These are form a special someone's birthday." She swatted my hands away. My birthday was tommorrow, but my parents had agreed not to throw some extravagant party. After the last one, I could see why they were inclined to agree with me. I had encountered Chad at their last party and I had no issue insulting him, his family, and their friends.
"What'd cha' get me?" I made a puppy dog face.
"None of your business." She gave me a beaming smile.
"I wish you were here more often." I maintain eye contact.
"Me too, but work has been killing me lately." She grew cold and I could tell she wasn't telling the truth.
"What's your honest answer?" I moved closer to her.
"That is my hon-" She was cut off.
"Hello, hon!" Malcom entered the kitchen and pulled me into a hug. That was when I saw Sam's eyes, they were so full of longing and pain. I realized why she had made sure she wasn't home lately. I hadn't been spending enough time with her lately, and I hadn't even noticed. I stepped away from Malcom and went over to Sam.
"How about tommorrow we spend my birthday shopping. Just us." Her face lit up.
"What about me?" Malcom made a pouty face.
"You can do whatever you want, but Sam and I need some time together." I wouldn't ignore her this time.
"If it's what you want to do that's fine." I was surprised Malcom caved so easily.
"Thank you." I kissed his cheek and went to order a us some dinner.

I woke up at 9a.m. and it felt like my body was going to shatter into pieces if I moved. I had fallen asleep in Malcom's arms, but the position my back had been arched was a death trap. I was excited for my day with Samantha, but I hoped that Malcolm wouldn't get too lonely. It was just like me and Samantha had lost the connection, as if we had been to passing ships in the night and I was determined two mend that bond. It was almost like she had been avoiding me lately and I was bound to find out why and our shopping trip today. I was hoping she wasn't mad at me or upset which I couldn't remember anything I done to her.
I just anticipated that's day was not going to end well...
